Frasier reads Bret Easton Ellis’ American Psycho and comes away deeply disturbed by the comparative inadequacy of his own skincare routine.

Daphne suggests to Martin that he highlight a crime special he wishes to watch in the TV Guide, which the old man stubbornly refuses to do, claiming “a detective’s memory is sharp as a tack”. After forgetting to watch the program, Martin must fake his way through Daphne’s numerous inquiries about it over the course of the week, inventing increasingly absurd and far-reaching details about the show, all drawn from old cases he filed years ago and casting doubt on his entire career in homicide.

Niles realizes he can’t recall where he purchased the several shelves of faux books that help fill out his home library. Opening one to check for the manufacturer, he’s bemused to find it’s not a prop at all, but a journal in his own handwriting recording the last few weeks of his life in extreme detail and florid prose. Pulling volume after volume from the shelf, he discovers the cryptic diaries go back years, and that while the accounts of each day’s events are strikingly accurate, he has no recollection of the activities they recount him doing by night - mostly involving the tedious purchasing, writing and organization of a mysterious set of journals he has no recollection of owning. Irritated by the incessant beeping of the room’s carbon monoxide detector, he heads down to the fine goods and stationery shop in the Montana’s lobby to gather his thoughts.

Roz is ejected from the local drugstore after her addiction to over-the-counter romance novels turns violent.
