Bruce is sat in the batcave, having thrown himself into another case. He’s been at it for a few hours, since he got home from solving the last case. Things have been confusing lately. He found out he wasn’t a man, which was difficult to come to terms with, and he was parenting a child with an actual partner for once, rather than on his own. Not that he’s done much parenting in general recently, he’ll admit that. He doesn’t want to influence Calliope to be like him. He’s sure Hal has it handled.
Speaking of Hal, he hasn’t spent much time with him. He deserves the entire universe gift-wrapped in a box for him, and Bruce is nowhere near good enough for him. He loves him with all his heart, of course he does, so selfishly that he cannot let him go. Perhaps with the distance, Hal will come to his senses. Perhaps, he’ll come down to the Cave right now and tell Bruce he’s not worth it. He thinks that’d be fair.
Hal, yes, has been busy. That much is true, he's spent more time than usual in Gotham and he's spent that time working on various projects and with Calliope. Hal loves his daughter, and isn't that such a wonderful word to say? He has a daughter. A daughter he plans on raising better than his father raised him. A daughter he shares with the most intelligent and interesting man the world has to offer.
There is something missing, however. Bruce. He's been distant, far more than he usually is, and after over two decades of knowing one another, Hal knows the difference between Bruce being busy and Bruce avoiding him. After closing his laptop, and putting Calliope to bed, Hal decides enough is enough.
He makes his way to that stupid clock, and down the stupid steps of the cave. He spots Bruce, his gorgeous man, focused on some random item. Perhaps Hal was wrong, she thinks, perhaps Bruce is just busy. That's never stopped her though. So he coughs, to catch Bruce's attention.
