In the ancient world there existed massive ships manned by entire towns of people, these showed the military might of the nation's who used them, but they also required like an entire town of people to operate and were extremely vulnerable to smaller faster ships who could outmaneuver them which resulted in them falling out of fashion.
Now while yes you could have these directly in whatever fantasy thing it is that you're creating I think a much cooler idea can come from these ships.
What if there were just floating towns and fortresses built onto big ships which either by magic or clever planning could self-sustainedly live in the ocean or on a terrifyingly big lake.
Maybe there could be multiple of these ships all floating around the same waters trading and coexisting together.
And hey if you want a good hook for a story what if one of the more prominent ships disappears or is found without anyone aboard it
