Humans are shape-shifters, who have to see what they shift to.
But.
Humans can only shift to sentient beings equal or higher in intelligence than them.
As such, they will never actually know they can shape-shift until aliens visit….

Ya know...in a lot of monster romances, there's plot points where the monster has some sort of scent, venom, or poison that makes their human counterpart more...er, how we say, insatiable for them
HOWEVER- I would like to introduce the same concept but with a cuddle response. Like, instead of it making humans all thirsty, shall we say, instead they suddenly have the urge to cuddle with the monster, stay close to them, see them as adorable instead of scary
This also has an actual biological function for the monster as well, since, if it were in danger/ and or hunting something, it could easily lull it into a sense of safety and see something super dangerous as cute. It also serves a function for mates to bond with one another
The princess uses her political power to protect her kingdom's dragon population from knights who are driving dragons closer and closer to extinction by poaching them for their teeth, claws, scales, and the title of dragon slayer.
Insane idea for a ship dynamic: the sexual tension between a goddess and her chosen martyr
Spell castin' type that messed up doing a magic so bad that their ability to generate their own "magical energy" was 'burned through' but the ability to store it remains so they're now constantly syphoning magic from: allies, enemies, attacks, mystical artefacts, plants, animals, monsters, weird books, a gentle spring breeze, etc.
Also their gender got burned through (somethin equivalent would have happened anyway eventually but this kinda excellerated that)
Pssst! Hey!
Yeah, you. get over here!
Sooo, wanna see random bit of ranting dialogue so divorced from its context that is not even really a spoiler because the idea of this arc might very well change by the time I write the several books were the content that would lead up to this, but I still think it's an interesting concept to explore?
Also, I wrote it while high.
A vampire alchemist who has created a synthetic human blood serum, not only to satisfy his hunger without hurting anyone, but to be able to donate blood.
A fae who only takes people’s names if they no longer want it and even helps them find a new one. She also guards nice humans from scams and takes people with nowhere else to go into the fae realm.
An elf so germaphobic he isolated himself in a castle that is magically kept pristine, with enchanted crystals creating purified air and visitors having to go through an intense regime of disinfectation before being able to enter.
A siren whose voice is so hurtful to the human ear that sailors will go out of their way to avoid getting anywhere close to her home.
A ghost that’s basically a disembodied soul attached to a sheet of cloth. It takes care of the old mansion it lives in and constantly forgets that it cannot go through solid objects.
A dragon that inhales fire and actively seeks to keep things from burning down. They also seek out hidden treasure to give to those in need and have scales that are really squishy.
A person who turns into a werewolf every night except during a full moon and is barely a functional human being throughout the day, only managing somewhat by drinking an excessive amount of coffee.
A succubus who is absolutely revolted by anything remotely sexual and feeds off of hugs, pats, cheek/forehead kisses, hand holding and cuddles instead.
A necromancer who’s going out of their way to seek out any dead souls rummaging on the Earth and talk them into going to the afterlife.
