RPGMAKER VX ACE FREE YALL [x]
Creators of RPG Maker are teasing some sort of HD-2D engine.
I feel like I'm guarding my heart with all software reveals in case it uses genAI or ends up sloppy and non-functional or they drop support within a month, but…
If it's the real deal, it's a cool idea. The weird thing about RPGM is that each new version will add a couple of bells and whistles but still keep most of the game design functionality dated back to like 2009. So even if this proves to be done well, I'm expecting it still to only have the same features as MZ.

Scribbling and assembling healthy religious-themed RPGM people in the same sketch page
so i’m considering making rpgmaker horror the subject of my 3rd year dissertation, and in preparation for that i want to ask: what would you guys say are the most influential and well-known games within this subgenre? i’ve already played a lot of rpgmaker horror games, but i feel like i’ve skipped over a lot of the really popular (insofar as anything in this niche is really popular) titles in favour of fringe stuff that isn’t necessarily super representative of the development of the genre. i’m also interested in tracing influences from outside the subgenre, so if there are any non-rpgm games you’d consider particularly formative to the sensibilities and conventions of rpgmaker horror, i’d love to hear about those too.
I Created A Video Game
It's called Corn Sausage RPG.
On 31 August I texted my sister this message: "Quick-- I'm gonna make a short shitty practice game to warm up for making my real game. Give me one word, can be anything, to guide what the practice game will be"
She replied: "Corn"
I texted by brother-in-law, her husband, the same message.
He replied: "Sausage."
And thus, Corn Sausage was born.
I gave myself two months to make it. First I thought about what the title would mean. Then I made a rough outline consisting of a Beginning, a few tentpole Middles, and an End.
Then I dusted the cobwebs off of my copy of RPG Maker MV and got to work. I wasn't in the mood to make a tileset, so I took Pokemon: Crystal version's. It fit the themes. I won't elaborate on that.
I wasn't expecting much. It was, at the end of the day, only an exercise in development to wake up my muscles for a much more ambitious and pre-planned project. But, by the time I finished, I found myself moved by what I created.
Corn Sausage RPG, despite being utter nonsense on the front-end, became a very personal and emotional work. It was released the day before Halloween.
Now it has 40 Downloads on Itch. 6 of those people reached out to tell me it made them cry. 1 reached out to let me know how bored and empty it made him feel.
If you'd like to try out my game, or watch its trailer, or berate me in the comments of my Itch page, you can do all of that (and more) here: https://reasonably-chill.itch.io/corn-sausage-rpg
Thank you for reading.
