The Hero and the Necromancer

Finally, his last client was gone and Asutsuo was free to close the shop. He scooped up the clay ocarina he’d been paid with and set it on the small stable by his sofa. He’d examine it later, as the customer had said it was a special instrument, owned by someone important. As curious as Asutsuo was, something else pulled at his mind.
He stepped over to the summoning circle he’d prepared that morning, one that was different than the decorative one he used for Necromancy. A book of his mother’s had been salvaged the other day when he last visited his village and a summoning spell in it caught his attention. Thankfully it wasn’t burned and still legible. Stolas had gone over it and said it looked to be used for summoning a powerful spirit.
With the book out, Asutsuo stood before the circle and began the incantation.
He paused and squinted at the page.
“Stolas, what do I say here?”
The owl leaned in to study the pages. “You can choose between one of seven phrases to insert, it appears.”
Asutsuo scanned over the choices and his eyes fell on ‘Rider’. Did it mean something of the Black Rider or the other Four Horsemen? It was worth a try.
A bright light filled the room, some coming from the circle, but the rest coming from the ocarina of all things!
“Stolas! What’s going on?!” Asutsuo demanded as he ducked down, holding the book over his head. “We didn’t use this much energy in the summoning ritual!”
“I sense another power at work here, Asutsuo! Something else is adding it’s mana to it!”
“Mana?!” What the hell was that?! It wasn’t the lifeforce he studied for Necromancy!
