Many tales surrounded the Outrealm Gate. To a petty thief like Gaius, these fanciful tales of realms unlike his own only allured him. He didn’t know much about the fabled gate, only that it served to act as a link between worlds. He was unaware of any potential dangers, for his mind was only fixated on one thing: what sweets would they have in other dimensions? What valuables would he be able to steal?
As night drew close, Gaius crept along in the shadows, stealthily making his way towards the looming gate. It would be easy enough to grab whatever he wanted from these worlds and then flee, right? After all, stealth was his asset. Fleeing from trouble was also a particular talent of his.
But the sudden flashing light from the gate caused Gaius to freeze and duck behind a crumbled wall. He watched with wary eyes as he saw a figure fall out of it and slowly pick itself up.
So the tales were true; the gate functioned as a connection of sorts. Straining his eyes, Gaius squinted against the light of the portal in an effort to make out the features of this new intruder. Vaguely, he noted the man had a slight figure, but his most prominent features were his long, pointed ears.
Was this man by chance a Manakete?
He pursed his lips. It would do him no good to get himself involved with a dragon. His only objective that night was to slip into the portal, grab whatever he could, then report back to the guild. Perhaps he would wait for the stranger to pass by...
