Hello there! I'm here seeking some advice about how to handle doubles. I usually play side characters or NPCs, so I don't encounter doubles often, but when I do I get so competitive and put out and I wish I didn't feel that way. I try really hard to be nice to my doubles and share icons and be friends, but there's always a part of me, especially when they first crop up, that's just angry that they exist. How do I get over this? I'd really like to.
That's always a very difficult thing to deal with. Jealousy can turn even the sweetest people into monsters. I'll give you a few tips that I personally do to keep myself in check. Considering I roleplay as one of the most rped characters on tumblr, it is definitely very difficult for me sometimes to prove myself different from all the others.
My personal favorite thing to do when I encounter people writing as the same character as me is following them instantly. Sometimes it's best to just have nice chats with them. You never know, you might possibly become good friends with them! It's always fun to share headcanons and your own views on the character. Everyone sees their characters differently, and that's the beauty of roleplaying. They could point something out that you might never have seen before. Or they could even help you with writing headcanons, or anything really.
Just whatever you do, do NOT let them get you down just because people may like their portrayal more than yours. It's an inevitable thing, and we're all guilty of playing favorites. There will always be someone that prefers you over another, and that's okay. We're humans, and that's what we do.
Keep your head held high, and don't let anyone else get you down. You portray your character perfectly fine, and there is no one else quite like you that portrays them that way.
