“It really stinks we came all the way to Sulani and all I can do is play video games,” KJ told his Dad. Charlie gave him an apologetic look, but he couldn’t control the weather. Plus, they had built a sand castle earlier that day when the rain had relented, so at least he got to experience the beach a little bit. But he knew KJ wanted to be in the water, playing around and snorkeling. 

“I know,” Charlie lamented. “But it can’t rain the whole time we’re here.” At least, he hoped it wouldn’t.

“So what’d you tell him to call me?” Felix asked the next morning as Charlie told him about the discussion last night before dinner. They hadn’t come up with a conclusion yet, so Charlie was curious what KJ was going to wind up calling Felix. 

“I said Dad,” Charlie told him. “Or to ask you what you wanted to be called.” 

“Daddy is weird, huh?” Felix asked and Charlie smirked. 

“I doesn’t have to be weird.” 

“But it is. I need to figure this out before he asks me.”

KJ couldn’t recall ever going on vacation before, and quite certainly never to any place as exotic as Sulani. So when his parents told him over breakfast that they were going to be surprising him with a trip there, KJ didn’t know how to react. Felix was quick to assure him that they were going to have a ton of fun on their family vacation.

For a minute, it looked like Frankie might have the upperhand, but it was like Allan suddenly realized the fight was getting out of control and needed to end it. He gave one good shove to the man, hitting him across the face before he backed up and wiped his hands of the man.

❦ Founder Household, Day Forty-Four ❦

The trip out to Selvadorada was long. Several times on the plane, Robyn wondered what she was really doing. If this was the right decision to make and even when she landed in the foreign area, a place she’d never been, she still questioned whether or not she should just hop on a plane and go back home. 

But she was here now and the cottage she’d rented was a beautiful little thing in the forest near town. It felt bigger than what she needed, with multiple bedrooms and a place for entertaining, but Robyn was here on her own and didn’t need all the space. She got to work quickly, heading into town for groceries and while she was in Selvadorada, she was going to eat like she was in Selvadorada, which meant following a video recipe on some of the local cuisine.

“Does it look bad?” Felix asked Charlie at breakfast. Charlie bit his lip, not wanting to tell his boyfriend that his face looked fucking awful, but it looked fucking awful. One of his eyes was swollen and pink, infected and crusty. Still, he thought Felix was sexy, but man, that case of pink eye was really getting in the way of that. 

“It’s not...that bad,” Charlie said, unconvincingly. 

Felix snorted in amusement, reaching up to rub at his eye and Charlie reached across the table to grab his wrist, pulling his hand away from it. 

“Don’t irritate it,” he told him. Felix gave a loud sigh, showing that he was already over this nonsense of pink eye, but he did as Charlie told him.

❦ Szalinski Household, Day Fifty-One ❦

After school, Dax did his usual thing. His time being grounded was up and he was allowed to go hang out with his friends again, so long as he let his Mom know where he was at all times. She didn’t need to know the details of what they were doing and he wasn’t exactly specific about where he was, just that he was with Jesus and Lester. 

Today, he found Jesus in a state. His friend had started in on the Bubbles ahead of him and seemed to be having a bad trip of it, sitting there with his head held in his hands. “You okay, dude?” Dax asked, coming to stand behind him and putting a hand on Jesus’s shoulders, leaning down to try and see his face.

“I’m in over my head,” Jesus complained. “Don wants me to sell way more than I’m able to.” 

“You’re selling for him now?” Dax asked, shocked that his friend would get so far into this whole with with Don Lothario. 

“It’s the only way he’d still sell to me,” Jesus told him.

❦ Zest Household, Day Forty-Five ❦

“Hey, Mom,” Charlie greeted as he stopped by Robyn’s house. She’d called him in the middle of the day to tell him that her computer had messed up and she didn’t know how to fix it. While he wasn’t horribly computer savvy, he knew enough that he thought he’d be able to help her out. Plus, it was always nice to see his Mom. 

Charlie worried about her being in that house all by herself. She didn’t even have a dog anymore to keep her company and in all honesty, he didn’t know what she did with her days all the time. He hoped she wasn’t terribly lonely and if he had a bigger apartment, he’d offer to have her come and stay with him if she was. Although, knowing his Mom, he didn’t think she’d ever accept something like that. She never liked to be a burden for her kids, she’d made that much clear. Though, Charlie didn’t know how many times he had to tell her that she was never a burden.
