The faint whirring of gears was all that filled the quiet library air, a pair of green eyes focused intently on the machine on the table. He tries to keep his hand steady as it turns the crank, willing each rotation to calm his erratic heart. Breathe, he pleads to himself, just breathe. He watches as the spheres representing the human realm’s Sun and Earth and Moon rotate, fascinates himself with the movements, tries to be mesmerized by their dance.
But the flames of anger continue to lick his insides, rage simmering in the pit of his stomach and threatening to crawl its way up his throat and through bared fangs. Wrath was no easy beast to tame, but there was another feeling Satan had to fight – pleasure. The sweet, sick pleasure of allowing wrath to consume his very being and tear through whatever unfortunate soul was at his mercy, to paint the walls red as he gleefully let anger’s sharp taste sit on his tongue. The absolute elation he feels at another trembling before him, dwarfed in his shadow as claws thirst for flesh and blood and bone.
He hated it. He loved it. He was trapped in an endless paradox as that wrath swirled inside of him – a wrath that he continuously laments is not his own. This pure, raw emotion that his very being is composed of is not his own. Would he feel differently, if it had been? Would he allow the fury to seep into him, allow himself the satisfaction it brought him? In the end, what is it that disturbs him more – that he has this wrath at all, or that through all the haze and destruction and madness he finds … rapture?
A cage he himself created, constantly defining himself in relation to the one he never wanted to be defined by – how folly. A Hell that Heaven made, himself a byproduct of Lucifer’s defiance against the Celestial Realm – how nauseating. Could he ever accept that millennia later this wrath was his to wield? To make his own?
The sudden screech of metal brings him out of his thoughts, the orrery he had been fixated on now crushed between his claws. Fuck.
The rage builds.
A murmur in the distance, footsteps approaching as he clenches his jaw. No one would be so foolish as to pursue the Avatar of Wrath after inciting him, would they? Satan finds his lips forming a wry smile. Oh, but they would. Someone always had to try and push their luck, much to his vexation.
Perhaps, just this once (“just this once”, he finds himself uttering more frequently), he’ll let the pleasure take away from the pain.

Anyway! While going through your blog I saw your tags on your most recent reblog of that Solomon post that’s been going around and I have to say—I’m happy to see that you also noticed that particular aspect of Solomon and Asmo’s relationship, that Sol doesn’t particularly trust him or put him on equal footing. I don’t recall what specifically gave me this impression, but I’ve always thought that they must’ve had something of a tumultuous relationship over the years, and that it’s only gotten okay around the time of the exchange program; because even though they were on good terms, according to the relationship chart the devs published (presumably around launch which is also the the time I’m assuming that Asmo’s Chapter A cards came out?) Solomon still viewed him as a tool/toy. I feel like there were moments as well that hinted that he wasn’t super happy with how overly close Asmo was behaving in S1 but I’m not sure.
And even with more recent things like Solomon saying he has trouble refusing Asmo in S3 after you meet the brothers in the human world, I kind of figured that it’s because it’s just easier to indulge him. But maybe it’s because I personally have more cynical takes on the characters’ relationships with each other? Because after some of the hard mode scenes in S2 I found myself enjoying a less rainbow and sunshine filled reading on everyone’s relationships and that there’s still plenty of baggage that hinders full trust and vulnerability.
Then again, we have Solomon saying that he still views pacts as business deals as recently as his last birthday, with Barbatos agreeing. So maybe my less fluffy takes still hold some water >.<
Anyway. Sort of just wanted to bring up Sol and Asmo because I also hardly see anyone talk about them beyond the ship + fanservice Solmare doles out and am dying to hear more about the complexities of their relationship beyond that >.< Hello again!! Still so crazy to know your personal blog omg
welcome to my abode! truth be told, i never intended on being mysterious forever. i'm someone who enjoys the satisfaction of watching others piece the puzzle together, and it goes for many occassions; my favorite being the way my friends attempt to figure out my oc lore with what information (writing) i've cleverly set out for them to find. here are some highlights from last night with a friend who refused to sleep until they've figured one (1) small piece of lore.
it's insane to think that it all inherently connects with the obm universe (because it's [godtongue]'s lore), but can easily be it's own concept without it. speaking of her ... i haven't forgotten about your other responses! i have answers for each of them neatly placed in my priv server ready to be revisited. ;)
i think you might be interesting in reading a recent ask i sent to /@.bbnibi regarding a bit of solomon's views on demons—once they respond to it of course. you mused that solomon doesn't typically like the way asmodeus behaves, and i'd like to mention that i can recall countless of times where this is something that consistently occurs. the way solomon responds to asmodeus' “i love you!”s with a curt, “i know.”? the way he went out of his way to reverse asmo's manipulative gaze when he streamed live to his audience? in the chat for, “letter from the devildom”, solomon doubted that asmodeus would be able to send any form of sincere letter. in the audio drama with sol & asmo, solomon was intensely disappointed (but not surprised) that after centuries of knowing each other, asmo knew nothing about him while mammon did. the list goes on.
imo, the only way for him to actually ensure a good relationship with someone like asmodeus (for the sake of keeping pactmates satisfied in order for them to be more willing to commit greater acts in return) is to partake in simple acts that otherwise bring no harm. persuasion doesn't seem to happen with him. if it's in his best interest, what he'd like to do anyway, or something he consider low-stakes and maybe fun to mess with, he'll let you ‘persuade’ him. he's the gatekeeper here, not you.
this is exceptionally evident in one of s4's lessons (hard mode of lesson 69) where solomon walks in on the royals mentioning him in reference to how he holds a grim reaper's emotions in the palm of his hands.
to which barbatos acts as though nothing was ever mentioned.
i don't think your view on relationships in obm is cynical in nature at all—i think that everything is laid out before the player if they choose to see it. in this specific scenario, i don't believe that solomon considers any of the cast as close friends, even simeon. solomon went out of his way to confront simeon, dealt with his blatant denial of everything that was going on alongside his sheer disrespect towards him, and yet solomon still didn't think ill of him. he knows so much about simeon and yet, can simeon say the same for solomon?
he rarely shares personal things about himself with other people, which is a juxtaposition of sorts, because what he craves most are meaningful conversations and interactions (see: lesson 46). the clincher is that while he wants to know ALL about you, he will often hold back in sharing much about who he is and what he emotionally needs from the people around him. i can't blame him, though. there isn't anyone who is able to provide him with that in the ways that matter.
apologies for the ramble, although i know you don't mind reading longer posts ^^ after seeing a recent poll of 1k+ people on twitter regarding the popularity of characters, it irked me how solomon placed 11th due to people thinking of him as someone bland and irritating (satan placed 2nd, though). i suppose that's why i'm in the mood to talk so much about solomon—to compensate for what newer players perceive him to be.

So for the first question, yeah she's basically a thought child between me and another person. So her being a perpetual collab is pretty apt.

The second answer is definitely longer than the first. So, let's start with the basics. Gwendolyn's issues with Diavolo and Barbatos stem directly from the ✨~Incident~✨. In fact, all of her issues with Barbatos come from this.
Not kidding. She and Barbatos would actually have a decent relationship with each other, if like, Barb wasn't the Dia's butler. But sadly, that will never be... -----
...Anyway, let's talk about the Teapot Incident™.
When she came back to her own timeline, (in my canon she goes back when she's revived by Lilith, and the timelines merge in a way where the brothers think that Gwen dying is just a bad dream,) Barbatos was waiting for her with some tea. Barbados is... Nice enough. He basically just asks how it went, but Gwen isn't having any of it, so she snaps.
Of course Barba is confused. That's just not the reaction he expected. But Gwen continues to go off, talking about how she was cheated, how her death was orchestrated by Barbo's boss, stuff like that.
He just offers some tea and a chance to talk this out.
That just makes Gwen more upset, because she didn't feel any empathy/sympathy from Bar.
So, she goes over to the teapot, and while Barbatos thinks this is all going to be– and Gwen just destroyed his favorite teapot. Over his head. Which had hot-ass tea inside.
I think that Barblo has a high pain tolerance, but that was his favorite teapot.
That smashing of it was awful in his eyes. The two of them actually start arguing because of this, but it's short lived.
Why? Well, Gwen started to cry. So, now Barbatos has a crying woman in his room, and doesn't know how to respond.
Thankfully for the both of them, Gwendolyn decided to leave immediately so that she could find a quiet place to have a meltdown.
Of course, they have to see each other at RAD, but they're on the same wavelength. And that's: “I'll go this way, you'll go that way, please stay out of my path.”

If I were to describe their relationship as simply as possible after the Teapot Incident™, I'd say that it's an odd form of respect (on Barbat's end at least) with like a secret hatred.
Like with the respect part of it, Gwen respects Barbster because she could never deal with Diavolo as diligently and with that amount of poise. Also because he's just respectable.
Barbond respects Gwen because he could never deal with the brothers like she does. Also because of the teapot thing weirdly enough. I mean, not many people would just hit him over the head with a teapot.
They still don't like each other though. Like, Barbad will invite her places, but that's just so that they can hate on each other without any of the people they care about seeing it.
Another way I like to describe them is: “A pair of divorced parents that only act like they're okay with the other's presence in front of their kid (the kid is Luke).”

Diavolo time.
Gwen already didn't like Dia because something about him being overtly happy all the time rubbed her the wrong way.
But after the Incident™?
Gwen's in her Robespierre era. She's up at like 3 a.m. plotting Diavolololo's demise. Eventually though, she gets called in to a private meeting with him at his castle. She immediately thinks: “Ah shit. Barbatos snitched and I'm get kicked out of the program.”
So she gets there, goes to Diablo's personal office and they have a meeting about her time in the Devildom. It starts out fine for the most part, and when they talk about the Teapot Incident™, Gwen doesn't have to pack her bags.
Not yet anyway.
Then they start to talk about Lilith, and Diavolo says that Gwen has Lilith's magic embedded in her soul. She then asks if anyone in her family would be the same. Diavolo doesn't know, but says he'll look into it.
And you know how after the Incident™ Diavolo says something along the lines of: “They must have been wanting to do this with Lilith for years!” and he doesn't think what he just said was kinda wack?
(I mean no one does, but you get the point.)
Well, Di makes a comment along those lines about Gwen and her family. Something like: “That must be why the brothers like you so much! I wonder if they would your family all the same.”
(Not the best written line I've made an OM character say, but hey, what can you do?)
That line makes the dam bust open. She unmasks her scorn for him, accusing him of letting her die, being critical of him in general, y'know, the works. It starts a back-and-forth between in which Diavolo doesn't really deny any of the claims that Gwen makes, and Gwen get increasingly angry.
This all ends with Gwenie getting a knife (a pocket knife, not like a kitchen knife) from her hoodie pocket and threatening Diavolo with a slit throat if he ever contacts her family. Or friends for that matter.
Dia obviously complies with that and Gwen leaves, realizing if she stays any longer, she might act on her impulses.
But oh? What's this? Diavolo... Liked getting threatened with a pocket knife?!
(Okay, before you ask I have a reason for this. The reason is that... I think that it'd be funny. Yep, that's it. I was going to make up an actual reason, but this is definitely the main one.)
So now Diavo has an unrequited crush on Gwendolyn. Whoops.

If I had to describe their relationship (other than “a potential hanahaki au”), it'd be something like: one party thinks that their story is enemies to lovers, and the other party tolerates them at best, and actively hates them at worst.
That's enough of Lordy McLordface, let's talk about Pridey McPrideface.

So, let's start off with this tidbit about Gwen. Unless she has a reason to do what you say (you're her boss, you're paying her, you have dirt on her, etc), she's not going to listen to you.
So that already causes tension between the two.
She also just doesn't fuck with prideful people, so that's not helping anyone.
However, Gwen starts to play nice by the time she goes up to the attic. Because she needs his pact to free Belphegor (she also needs his pact for her own reason, I'll tell you if you want to know).
But, by the time the Grimore (not sure how to spell it lol) thing happens, she starts to antagonize Lucyfur because he tried to hurt a child and his younger brother. And their relationship sort of stays like this. They tolerate each other because they have to.
After the Incident™, Gwen avoids the brothers, especially the twins and Luc. The twins because they're a package deal, and Lu because he's Diavolo's secretary basically. And after the meeting with Diavolo, she really avoids him (and his brothers). Like, she develops a sixth sense for when he enters the same room as her just so she could leave the room faster.
They do eventually talk about Gwen's issues with him. And their relationship does become something better. Of course, Gwen still finds him pompous, and Lulu still thinks she shouldn't be so reckless, but they do ease into a friendship where they can show each other their true selves and feelings. It just takes a few years.
(Lucifer's section is shorter than I'd thought it'd be. Oh well. (Also, reading your question back, I don't think you asked about Lucifer, but you're getting this anyway. :))

With Mephistopheles, Gwen probably is closer to him than she is with the brothers. To her, Mephs is a reliable place where she can rant about/escape the brothers.
Mainly because he's just easy for her to talk to. Like I said before, she made pacts with the brothers for her own gain, so she feels guilty when she talks to them. (If they didn't call her family that early on, she probably wouldn't feel this guilty.)
With Meph, there isn't any guilt, especially since them making a pact is basically like a reward to Gwen. So, no guilt. Fun.
They also coordinate when Gwen (or rather, whatever sorcerer Gwen can get her hands on) summons him. This is in small letters because Gwen feeling guilt for her actions seems more important.

If Dola and Gwen met, I think it would go over well. I doubt they'll be the best of friends, and honestly I'm not sure if they have much in common, but if you were to put them in an art museum, I'm sure they'd do fine together.

Hello! So like... I saw your two posts about MC being jealous of Asmo's relationship with Solomon and it got me thinking? Because I've been thinking about the same thing though with MC's relationships with everyone in the cast because they're literally the only mortal around that circle and are probably aware of how their existence is a mere speak in the universe in the grand total of their inordinary loved ones' lives
I also hc Sol's relationship with Asmo to be a lot like how you see it + the additional hcs that--
- he doesn't actually open up to any of his pacted demons and that most of anyone who isn't human is kept at a certain distance from him emotionally bc of his self-placed responsibility as the protector of humanity (based off of what I've seen of him in main story + his views on demons and pacts as per his bday UR? Though I wanna say that I do think he trusts Simeon and opens up to him more than he does to any demon though, very touched about him missing the angels in the circus event ;w;)
- the trust he places on his apprentice is like no other and it's a mutual trust in each other. So Sol is willing to actually be open and honest with MC in ways he wouldn't be with anyone else (this is also lowkey me indulging in the The One fantasy too but he says it himself in cards and events that he fully trusts them and he can be himself with them so-)
All that to say, I think if MC is comfortable enough to even open up to Solomon about that insecurity of theirs, they're at That point in the relationship already (be it platonic or romantic) where they can have a sincere and honest talk about it? Because unlike Asmo, MC is human and there are just some things that demons can never understand from the human experience and vice versa. And also that the two do have a bond that formed and evolved in a way that his relationship with Asmo absolutely did not follow. Like MC's special in their own way too and while it might be a bit hard to convey, I think he can do it for them? If not through words then time and action. And tbh I do think Solomon would kind of gently throw Asmo under the bus if needed but like in a nicer way because his beloved apprentice needs the comfort, even more so if Sol actually wants to pursue a relationship with MC, even if MC said they didn't want anything to come out of their conversation >.> He was willing to put the three realms in danger because he didn't want to upset them so doing that to Asmo doesn't seem that far fetched to me? And I feel like Asmo himself would be supportive if he knew MC felt that way, but this is assuming that he and MC are basically family like in canon
Because on some level I do think Solomon wishes and hopes that they'd join him in being immortal but he's fully aware of what a misery it is and the risk of them hating him for it. But also what can he do if they want it and achieve it without him knowing? And if the devotion to each other runs as strong as he dares to believe then maybe they'll both find solace in each other as the worlds around them slowly crumble and perish into nothing? Sorry I'm being like, really self indulgent here because I do want it to work between them shdfjksdfh

listen i know obey me is very poly and that's fun and great! but i really, really like being The One ok it's just more fun to me
HOWEVER his relationship with his pacts is super interesting because he's so cautious and walled off, less so but even with Barbatos, that it seems like Asmo is the only exception. And Asmo plays it up so that it just SEEMS like they're super close. But perhaps more interesting (to me) is Asmo playing it up and feeling as if Solomon would take him up on all his offers if he wasn't such a stick in the mud because obviously he would - who would pass up flirtations offered by The Avatar of Lust, Asmodeus himself? So perhaps even Asmo being held at arm's length without even realizing it is more possible than I thought. Before MC he didn't really let others get much of a word in lol!

in my last post about this that wasn't an ask i said devotion and i really think that is the term I was looking for. The longer I've hovered in this fandom and the less I've tried to please others to fit in (thought i'm not saying i'm really breaking any norms here bc i'm not lol) the more i've distanced myself from casual relationship all the time solomon to severely lonely and reclusive solomon. Sometimes I get swept up in the fanon interpretation of him being a real party animal and having hundreds of demons on call for his whim but honestly? Maybe it's the pervasive The One fantasy but I really do think he just wants one person. He's had the entirety of the universe at his fingertips and yet all he wants is one good thing to stay. That sort of quiet devotion, of having everything you want but knowing it'll come to a bittersweet end, of having the chance to keep it for yourself but picking selflessly and letting MC have the final say and respecting it, the kind of devotion where you KNOW he'll keep you in his heart forever, that maybe yours is the one face he won't forget.....that's what i'm HERE FOR BABYYY
