Tangled: Before Ever After, Tangled: The Series and Rapunzel's Tangled Adventure - Rapunzel and her own parents with Eugene
Do you think Arianna and Frederic should’ve divorced in season 3 or should divorce after the show at some point?
Personally, I would have liked Arianna to have SOME sort of strong reaction against Frederic after everything that happened in S1. In Before Ever After, they mentioned Arianna being some sort of amazing humanitarian who helped people during natural disasters, so in theory, that would be setup of her being appalled by Varian’s treatment before he snapped, but NO! It was just some shallow flavor text to tell the audience how “amazing” of a queen she was.l without her even doing anything.
That’s my personal problem with Arianna’s character in general. She’s played up to be this awesome queen, but when things actually matter she doesn’t do anything at best, or she actively promotes people’s terrible actions at worse. At least Frederic had an active role in S1, Arianna is just there and doesn’t even get an episode to herself without her sister overshadowing it.
Ah, but I guess I’m digressing too far from the main point. A potential divorce arc could have at least been Arianna’s chance to have an actual opinion over Frederic’s poor leadership skills and choices. At least she could of had SOME pride as Queen for being kept in the dark during such a dangerous time in her kingdom’s history.
Also, I feel like the Day of Hearts episode in S3 overdramatized the negativity of a potential divorce and that’s a pretty messed up thing to do since there are legit kids there whose parents may be going through or went through that process for their own good. Having their favorite Disney princess go on a rant about how her parents potentially splitting up is the “end of the world” and never really being challenge on that mindset isn’t doing those kids any favors in my opinion.
So yeah, a divorce plot line might have done the series a bit of good in some ways to damage control all the weird writing decisions they put the royal family through up to that point. At the very least, I wanted Arianna to be allowed to be upset with Frederic in some way.

Rapunzel and her parents
Two paintings Rapunzel did of people after she became upset with them.
For Frederic it was right at the end of Before Ever After when he used his powers as king to forbid her from leaving Corona.
In Varian’s case, she had a spooky dream that featured him and just got a note from him asking for help.
So in short, Frederic outright talked down to her and dismissed Rapunzel and got this painting of him being sad with soft colors. Meanwhile, something happened that was completely out of Varian’s control and Rapunzel responded by painting him as intimidating as possible wearing a jacket he only wore once before for five seconds (not even wearing it in her dream) in dark smudgy colors.
Let it be known that from now on, I will cite these two pictures whenever I talk about the clear unfair bias in Tangled the Series.
