tkc was meant to be a 90s sitcom, actually. the magic god stuff is just a B-plot to things like sadie accidentally scheduling a date with walt for the same time as a date with anubis. a leaky pipe causes sadie and carter to have to move into the same room for the whole episode, getting on each other's nerves and dividing it down the middle with tape. sadie house-sits in the duat for her parents (julius/osiris+ruby) for the weekend; has a huge party, and has to scramble to clean it up in time, all while walt is trying to buy her more time by distracting them. the parents of one of the initiates come over to the brooklyn house for dinner, and everyone has to pretend that it's just a normal boarding house.
I think the making of a great character is how often they really and truly piss you off. That way you know you can appreciate the art reflecting humanity.
Now... to get Pjo fans to admit their faves arent perfect.... an uphill battle I WILL NOT be taking on.
But still! I think a lot more readers need to realise that characters are the essance of people, they are supposed to be complex, make you wanna rip your hair out sometimes, make you laugh, make you frustrated. Writing is an art form.
It invokes the same feelings that paintings invoke in artists and critics alike!
Your favourite characters ARE NOT PERFECT, and thats okay.
They way I would read the fuck out of a Kane Chronicles prequel. It has the potential to answer soooo many questions. When did Ruby Kane figure out she was supposed to be a magician? When and how did her and Julius figure out what to do with the Gods? When did Isis show up? Why do the Kane brothers know Desjardin so personally? When and why did Amos fight with Menshikov (and win)? How did the Per Ankh/House of Life work?
☥ KANE CHRONICLES' EGYPTIAN GODS AND THEIR MAGICIAN'S HEADCANONS: 𓊨𓏏𓆇𓁐 ISIS: GODDESS OF MAGIC, MOTHERHOOD, WOMEN, MARRIAGE, CHILDBIRTH, AND FAMILY feat. RUBY KANE ☥
a/n: Gotta do Isis after her husband, it just doesn’t feel right not to. You know despite Isis being a popular goddess (or at least as I’ve seen) there haven’t been much, actual? Stuff written with her in mind? Other than “she’s the goddess of magic” but even that isn’t detailed too much.
EGYPTIAN GODS AND THEIR MAGICIANS MASTERLIST {A03} || {TUMBLR}
Ah Isis; a somewhat more common bloodline when great women in times of need pray for Isis to inhabit them. It's also the most welcome connection for a magician since Isis is the goddess of Magic.
In general, when you go down the path of Isis and establish a connection with Isis, it's best if you’re a lover of magic and are open to all the possibilities. As the goddess of Magic, Isis has a plethora of knowledge which is best if you’re flexible and broad in your own pursuit of knowledge and power.
There’s no shortage of magicians going down the path of Isis, since it allows you to tap into the Divine Words, Elemental magic, and Healing magic. Establishing a connection with Isis requires a strong ambition for power and the pursuit of knowledge and wisdom.
However, talking to Isis for a long period of time requires patience and being able to appeal to Isis due to her ambitions; where you have to prove to Isis that you are willing to learn and for what reason. If you’re lucky, maybe Isis will find compassion in you and will stick around because of it.
Honestly when you are able to connect with Isis, you will feel like you’re going to be scrutinized and analyzed by the goddess. She will ask why you want to go down her path and from there, see if it's in her best interest to establish a connection with you. Once you do, she’ll be overlooking you unironically like an overbearing mother, who is strict and wants the best for you. If you are able to appeal to her as a ‘child’ to her, she’ll be softer and gentler with you but a mother all the same.
When you’re pursuing Healing Magic, Isis’s path of the Gods requires you to learn about poison. To cure yourself and your loved ones using antidotes, but more importantly, how to use poison to gain an upper hand in any situation necessary; just like Isis poisoned Ra to learn his Secret Name. Your healing is only good enough if you know your poisons.
When you begin to learn Divine Words, Isis’s approach feels very much like when you were a child and your mother was teaching you the alphabet and words. Isis will coach you how to pronounce the hieroglyphic spells into Divine words, Isis will insist you pronouncing it the way she does; given that Isis is probably the most authentic and original way of how it’s said, the closer you are able to say the hieroglyphic to how Isis says it, the more powerful the Divine word is.
You’ll be able to speak the Divine words, because Isis won’t stand for it under her own watch; but its effect and potency depends on how much Isis feels towards you, and your linguistic ability to grasp and pronounce the Hieroglyphic. Unless you host Isis, do not expect to be able to speak it to its truest form.
I feel like Elemental Magic is the easiest yet hardest thing to learn, especially from Isis because it's the most basic magic to learn, there are many varieties that you find yourself drawn to. However, as the goddess of Magic, Isis requires you to learn every single elemental magic as you can and the strongest power it can achieve.
She would even has you learning lightning magic but don’t be surprised if you don’t learn/fail at it because it's Chaos magic, or not being able to perform all of the elemental magic- since Isis does it out of curiosity and isn’t surprised because she is the goddess of Magic, so her being able to use any elemental magic without restriction is expected of her.
There’s a possibility you may be able to use Ice magic, but that is a very rare skill and probably requires you having a talent or strong affinity with Air and Water magic. Don’t be sad though if you can’t do it because again, not many can do it.
It is unsure if you are able to use cheese elemental magic as part of Isis’s path of Elemental magic but who knows? Between Ice and Cheese elemental magic, its going to be fun to find out.
“Mother knows best” energy from Isis and it could go either way at times, so be prepared for that.
I think when having a connection with Isis, you also are able to talk to Ruby Kane, whether because of her connection with the goddess or Ruby being the ‘wife’ of Osiris-Julius, and you can’t help thinking of Ruby whenever Isis’s much more softer persona comes out; so if you’re feeling a little bit of Isis’ tough mother love, Ruby Kane would appear to comfort you and give you her perspective on Isis as well as listening to any troubles you may have.
If you have the skills of being a Diviner, Isis would put forward Ruby and have her guide you in this gift.
That said, I feel like Ruby Kane would appear more often than not to help tutor you in being a magician, especially when it comes to more mortal aspects and you can feel her slip into her role as a teacher from her times as a professor in university.
If you use too much magic and try to draw too much power from Isis, you’re subjected to the side effects of being in her memories as a goddess and all the human hosts that she resided in. While some memories are good and enjoyable, there are many memories of death and struggles, of anguish and pain.
You also may get a first hand look into Ruby Kane’s memories and all the visions she saw as a diviner of what could’ve been and what had happened, as well as getting a close look at Apophis and being bitten by his minions.
Whether you like babies or not, you don’t really have a choice because when you connect with Isis, you will feel the maternal instincts and your duties will fall upon children and babies. Don’t be surprised if you find yourself raising baby kittens or taking care of a younger magician in your spare time; this is what happens when you follow the path of Isis; who is the goddess of childbirth and motherhood.
When you start pursuing this path, Sadie Kane makes her appearance very early on and is there to support you, as a fellow mentor, magician, or what have you. If you’re ever having problems with Isis or the path for it, she’s there for you. With her personality, you can always tell she means well and wants to help you.

“Many have sought my power and knowledge for their own means; whether to protect themselves or their family. You have great power and ambition much like I do, and you will do what is necessary to achieve what is necessary. I am Isis, the Goddess of Magic and Motherhood, Queen of the Gods, Wife of Osiris, now demonstrate to me how much you are willing and how far you’re willing to achieve what you want”
