Every June I highlight a different fave queer author and this year it’s Ruby Landers!

Her books are incredible and emotional and wonderful. If you’re a romance reader looking to feel all the feels, I can’t recommend her books enough. And she’s Aussie 😉

Heard great things about this book and the Grace Notes series, and liked some parts of it, but didn't love it.

Singer Savannah Grace met former lifeguard Brynn Marshall when she showed up at her Vermont doorstep as she pretended she was the wife of Noah Lyman, a country singer Savannah collaborated with on her first solo album. Brynn saved Savannah's son Tucker from drowning in a pond and became his new nanny. The women spent a lot of time together with Tucker and on walks in the Vermont woods and they fell for each other.

Savannah heard Brynn when she played piano and sang to her son and she demanded she work on her new album with her. They developed a love song called Longing as they tried and failed to ignore their growing feelings for each other. They kissed, but eventually the fake marriage lie blew up around them. Savannah told Brynn to leave and they didn't speak for a year. Brynn and Savannah separately taped very sexual scenes for Longing's music video that suggested they were together and Savannah truthfully denied those insinuations, but proudly came out as queer.

Also, Savannah's label picked up Brynn as an artist and she released her own successful album. When Brynn was asked to join some dates of Savannah's tour they reunited and talked and made up for a steamy hookup and HEA.

Tiene mucho 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ pero me lo he saltado 🤭🤭🤭 no por no querer leerlo pero es que tengo un timing especular para siempre llegar a esas partes cuando estoy en público y las partes lentas me toca a cuando estoy sola y con mucha facilidad para distraerme 🙄🙄🙄

Ahhhh this was phenomenal! I loved this even more than Only Hope and definitely sits firmly as my second fave Ruby Landers book (Ribbonwood’s gonna be pretty hard to beat).

I loved how nuanced Estella Grant is. She’s fierce, dangerous, deadly, sexy. But she’s also compassionate, she has a big heart, she wants to right wrongs and help people. I love the length’s she’s willing to go to protect women who need it. This is how you make me fall in love with a mob boss.

Ellie was a really great character, too. A little naive at times, but never stupid and always headstrong. She went after what she wanted with a commendable ferocity and I loved that about her so much.

I loved how much of this book was about these characters separate from their romance. But oh, their romance. It was exhilarating and soft and spicy and ugh it had my whole heart.

All the side characters in this one are so incredibly well written, too. They all feel like full, complex characters and they were so easy to fall in love with.

And the plot? There is a huge plot playing out in the background of this one and the payoff is so worth the slow burn of it. Absolutely incredibly well crafted.

I picture Savannah Grace to look and sound like Lainey Wilson. Anyone else?

I loved this so much. Ruby Landers writing never fails to make me feel things, to be comforting, to feel absolutely right as soon as I start.

I loved Hope and Alison so much. They’re both loud, confident, opinionated and bossy. Both kind, compassionate and loyal as hell. But they’re both so wildly different from each other, too, in ways I can’t quite articulate.

I loved the slow burn of it all, the way they were both definitely attracted to each other from the start but both settled on being friends, only to proceed to pine for each other for the whole book. It was absolutely wonderful. I was living for it.

I LOVED this messy, close, wonderful friend group. SO messy. But they all loved each other so, so much. I hope we get to learn more about them all in future books 👀
