Day 12: Prick for #seasonofthebadguysclub2 The Ruby Ball cactus, or Gymnocalycium mihanovichii, are those stupid red cacti that sit perched atop a girthy green base and lack the needed chlorophyll to live. It's a wholly redundant species, unable to exist by itself, and why it survives is a mystery to me. It only does so because of the green root base, which it's grafted to, whose entire life seems to be to prop the spiky red sphere up and sustain it. The above drawing isn't actually a Ruby Ball Cactus, but rather an Echinocactus grusonii, or Golden Barrel Cactus, and suitable vehicle for my complaint about parasitic red cacti. #prick #goldenbarrelcactus #rubyballcactus #echinocactusgrusonii #seasonofthebadguysclub #houlart #houl
