please elaborate on rubyjo thoughts bc im about to climb on board this ship so fast

rubyjo! okay so i just got introduced to this concept by @lesbianjoannaharvelle, and mostly bc we're both in the sapphicnatural discord and i know well enough to recognize iconicism when it's sent directly to a groupchat.

now, to ME, honestly also send Ally an ask, she's the best, but to me, rubyjo is your CLASSIC huntermonster ship where (typically) a Winchester would give a monster (used here as shorthand for a paranormal creature, really) Winchester derangement syndrome, but in this case, it's Joanna Beth Harvelle just doing her damn job, getting her hunts in under her mama's nose, and happening to attract the attention of a demon who doesn't want to kill her for some reason.

(this is ending up as a fic idea description, but you know how it is)

I think at first, Jo isn't killing or fighting Ruby because she sees Ruby as an opportunity to learn more about demons for herself. Like Sam, after a while, she's not okay with Ruby just chilling around in some poor girl's body, and Ruby has to make the switch to her Jane Doe body, but anyway- Ruby is there trying to learn more about the Winchesters, who Jo doesn't actually see very much at this point in her life, which she eventually tells Ruby when Ruby asks (she means to be covert about it, but she's only kinda good at subtlety).

After that, Ruby isn't sure why she doesn't leave. But she doesn't.

Jo Harvelle x Ruby

Ruby has dreamt of being a artist ever since she was little. She even graduated from college top her class with the most potential - according to her professor anyway.

But being an artist doesn't pay.

So she turns to her next best thing. Hairdressing

It's not remotely close to what she wants, but it pays well. Not to mention, she gets to spend her entire day combing through pretty girl's hair.

That's when Jo Harvelle comes into the picture. Drop dead gorgeous, up-and-coming model Jo Harvelle, who's breathing seems to hitch a little every time Ruby touches her hair.

Suddenly she's all Ruby can think about; all she can paint and draw and sculpt.

But thankfully, the pining seems mutual when Jo grabs her hand after Ruby's finished her last hairstyle, and jots her number down onto it.

So whilst, maybe, hairdressing isn't her dream - she's found an amazing girlfriend through it, so she doesn't really complain.

Western au Jo ruby?

the river's low, but it's cold, and jo leaps at the chance to dip her feet in, get out of her dirty, bloodstained boots that she probably should have ditched two towns ago; she's still not quite up on the whole vagabond lifestyle, and even if she never wanted to wear a skirt again, there's not much she wouldn't do for a hot bath and a soft bed.

"we've gotta keep moving, honey," ruby calls, and jo nearly fucking screams, "jesus christ, can't you give me five fucking minutes? the winchesters ain't gonna get far in five minutes. they're still gonna be in that shithole by the time we get to them." ruby and jo each have one bullet for one brother, and jo's been after dean winchester for some months now, the ghosts of their fathers breathing down her neck demanding blood. ruby's never told her what lil sammy did to her, but it must have been something - she's been hunting sam even longer. 

ruby sighs. "three minutes, and i'll give you a foot massage later. deal?"

jo tips her head back, basking in the furnace of the early afternoon, toes wiggling in anticipation of one of ruby's famous foot massages. "two minutes, a foot massage, and a happy ending."

"deal," she grins, her smile curling the sound into something dark and dirty, and jo shivers.
