If I can be selfish and ask for another, no pressure!
Julie/Luke/Reggie "let's go outside, it's snowing" during a tour that isn't going well
Julie knew they would have work hard to make it as performers-even after their Orpheum show, it wouldn’t mean instant stardom. They would get there eventually, and then all the hard work would be worth it.
That was what she had to keep telling herself as they played at a noisy club where no one was paying attention to their music.
The place was seedy, sticky, and smelled bad-but their management assured them they welcomed upcoming talent and the important thing now was building a following.
She still wasn't sure this was the place to do it-everyone was more riveted to the match on the TVs than their songs, but hey, a gig was a gig right?
"Call it a night?" Luke asked after they finished their last song. "Let's go back to the motel and just chill the rest of the night."
"Sounds good to me," Reggie agreed. "Jules, you go see about us getting paid and we'll load up the van."
"We're stopping for burgers on the way back to our rooms though," Alex stated. "Because I don't know about you guys, but I am starving."
It wasn't long before Julie came back, finding the van loaded, and the guys waiting. She had a meagre pile of cash in her hands, handing each of them a few bills. "That'll cover dinner at least," she said, trying to be optimistic.
"A gig is a gig," Luke said-it had been their constant refrain since setting out on this tour. "How many more before we set off towards home?"
"Five," groaned Reggie. "Hopefully they go better tha tonight. Or last night."
"Or the night before?" Alex offered.
"I know it sucks," Julie said, wrapping her coat firmly around her-it was getting cold the further north they drove and she couldn't afford to get sick. "But we get through these five awful gigs, and then we go back home to record a demo, and then..."
"Then we become legends," Luke surmised. "But first...burgers."
It was later that they were back in their room, full and tired, lounging around the small TV, watching some random reality show or another. Alex was pretty much asleep on his bed, head nodding in the pale glow of the screen.
Reggie was looking out the window, then make a little squeak. "Guys! Let's go outside, it's snowing!"
"What?" Luke asked, rushing over, seeing the fat flakes drift downwards. "Oh wow, been forever since I've seen snow."
"Get your coat on Jules, let's go!" Reggie giggled.
"Oh why not," Julie said, the three of them bundling up as much as they could, thankful Luke had extra beanies for them to steal, and ventured forth to the slowly forming winter wonderland. "Oh..."
"Pretty isn't it?" Luke remarked, taking her hand and twirling her as the snowflakes fell.
Reggie opened his mouth, catching flakes on his tongue, and smiled as he felt the snow dot the freckles on his face. But then he felt a handful hit his chest and he looked over to see Julie trying to hide her giggled in her hands and Luke whistling innocently. "Oh it's on!"
They shrieked as they tossed handfuls of snow at each other-it was too powdery to make snowballs, but that didn't matter as they flicked snow back and forth.
"Ok I give!" Julie said, breathless as Reggie landed another pile of snow on her. "I needed that."
"I think we all did," Luke admitted. "Feels nice to have fun for once."
"We always have fun together Lu," Reggie said with an overexaggerated eyebrow waggle.
"Not while sharing a room with Alex we aren't," he snorted.
"Yeah, next time we ask them to get us separate rooms," Julie stated. "I don't know how much longer I can listen to him snore."
They all laughed at that, then twirled in the still falling snow, their breath steaming in front of them as they laughed, dancing together, switching all around until finally the cold turned their cheeks rosy and their fingers cold.
"I think it's time for bed," Julie stated. "Before we lose our toes."
"You're right," Luke said, going to open the door to their room, only finding it locked. "Reg you got the key?"
Reggie shook his head. "Nope, you?"
Luke checked his pockets, then shook his head, then faced Julie. "Any chance you got yours?"
Julie scowled. "No, I grabbed my coat and that was it. Knock and wake Alex up."
"You know how deep he sleeps," Luke said, even as he pounded on the door. No answer. "Reg, go check the lobby and see if they have a spare, I'll keep trying."
Julie stood there shivering as Reggie ran off, Luke hitting the door again-he didn't shout because he didn't want anyone around them complaining but he was talking to Alex, hoping it would rouse the drummer.
Reggie returned empty handed not long after. "Manager is gone home, lobby is locked tight."
"Well what do we do now?" Julie asked.
Reggie held up a finger, going over to the van, and pulled the door open. "Your chariot awaits."
"You forgot to lock the door again didn't you?" Julie asked Luke.
"Probably a good thing I did, thank goodness the guitars are inside the room though," he replied, the three of them climbing in. They didn't have the keys to turn the heat on, but there were blankets they used to cover their instrument there, so they wrapped themselves up on the long bench seat.
"Well this is..." Julie started, then shook her head. "It's cozy."
"We've slept worse," Reggie said with a shrug, snuggling into her side. "Let's sleep, and in the morning Alex can pay for breakfast."
"Plus take the first round of driving," Luke commented around a yawn.
"Serves him right," julie agreed, closing her eyes. Sure they were cramped into a van with only each other and the blankets for warmth, but it really was cozy-plus out here, all she could here was the gentle fall of snow and the gentle breathing of her boyfriends-no snoring drummers, loud air conditioners, or people through too thin walls.
In the end, Julie would admit it wasn't all that bad-and it was probably the best night's sleep she got all tour.
