The funny thing about there being a new generation of Riders Eragon will have to train is that we do not know if he plans to continue the tradition of only accepting children around the age of ten to touch the eggs.

(Which, I 100% understand why they did this in the old Order. They’d want those kids as untouched by politics, war, and outside influence as possible, and that;s just one of a hundred reasons they’d want them young, despite the cruelty of tearing them away from their families and cultures so young, which is so so sad, but anyway.)

But all I can think about is Eragon, sitting in front of a bunch of ten, eleven, and twelve year old dwarf, human, Urgal, and elf dragon Riders and they’d have some version of Eragon’s adventures they’re familiar with but would want to hear it from him. And he would just leave out all the extra traumatizing parts and one day (and I say this with a lot of experience around children) one of the kids would just be like “Dras-Leona sounds like it was so cool! The Ra’zac and those creepy priests—“

And Eragon, imagining scenes of gory near-cannibalism and utter self-mutilation as well as Arya’s folded skin glove and the Ra’zac that tried to eat them alive and more. “Yes, haha… very cool… so cool…”

And then he would proceed to aggressively drink an anxiety potion and resume his lesson looking half-dead but way too enthusiastic about HEY LOOK AT THIS SPELL whenever the topic comes up again.

“And did you fight the Lethrblaka too? How did they die?”

“LOOK. GREEN FIRE. WANT TO LEARN TO MAKE IT PURPLE??!?” *laughing erratically in fear* “PLEASE??”

Do you think Eragon would be upset that Murtagh was legit throwing around the fact Eragon was a bastard without context. Because this has bothered me since I read Murtagh.

I think it was right before he stabbed the guy, but he told some dude ‘Eragon’s the bastard. Not me.’

Do you think if Eragon ever learned about that, it’d bother him? Because it has openly bothered him that he IS a bastard, and I wonder if he’d actually be a little upset that Murtagh would say it, even if the guy is dead now. I wonder if they’d argue. Because it’s technically the truth, but Eragon’s ashamed of it, and Murtagh knows enough about feeling ashamed of things he can’t control to know better than to flaunt Eragon’s shames.

Hello, everyone!

I wanted to apologize for being gone so long. I know I’ve been on and off for a few months. Life’s been extremely hectic, especially since July, and I’ve been struggling to keep up. I haven’t lost my passion for the Inheritance Cycle, and I miss everyone here. I love hearing from you and can’t wait to hear updates!

On a positive note, I’ve finished one manuscript and I’m currently querying. I’ve received one rejection and have two pending answers. I am about 45% into my second book, and I intend for the series to be a trilogy. I’m really enjoying myself and would love to share my book if I ever get it published!

I have some art and script requests in my inbox. I WILL answer them, sooner or later. None will be ignored.

My inbox and messages are always open. I’d love to hear from all of you, and I’m looking for some book recommendations. Christmas break feels extremely weird to me this year and I don’t know what to do with myself.

I cheat when I write.

With concepts.

Instead of using the five stages of grief only for… grief, I use it for lots of things. Uncertainty, confusion, anger—pretty much any complicated or deep-seated emotion, no matter how short the scene is. (I use this trick sparingly, but it keeps sticking out at me in important scenes.)

For example, I realized I used the dang stages of grief to write a happy scene in a fanfiction chapter. With just the dialogue, it was basically this:

(One character gave a friendless character a gift on a day meant to celebrate friendships and love ones.)

“It is yours.” DENIAL: “What? No. No, this is- you can’t-“. “I can. And I have.” ANGER: (his voice grows sterner.) “No. this is yours. I won’t take it.” “You are not taking, but accepting.” BARGAINING: “I cannot! Let me at least find you something as well. An honest trade. I will give you-“. “No. It is a gift. Not a bargain. Not a test.” DEPRESSION: (His shoulders slump and his voice quiets) “I cannot… it means too much to you…”. ”and now it shall mean much to you as well.” ACCEPTANCE: (he hesitates, thanks her and apologizes interchangeably a few times, hugs her hastily, and hurries away feeling awkward but honored though confused.)

…I am a horrible person when I write lmao. How have I just realized I do this. Because it’s legitimately a theme in my more important scenes.

Question

Writing a fanfic and came to a question I couldn't really find a satisfying answer to.

Indlvarn (a Rider and Eldunarí pairing) are mentioned only once or twice in the books, but I had a question about it. Would the connection between the living rider and the dragon be disrupted/damaged/disconnected in any way when the dragon's mind snaps into the Eldunarí when their body dies? And even beyond the dragon grieving its body (and the Rider, probably, seeing how much Riders typically sleep with, fly with, and touch their dragon), how would their minds have to adjust? What all would the adjustment period involve?

I have this dumb theory where, because elves have such hypersensitive hearing, they also make unique sounds a human or dwarven ear couldn’t perceive. Distress sounds, hums, little trills and notes—it could even gesture at the note that elf voices are ‘musical’ in nature.

Imagine cracking open an elven parenting scroll and seeing ‘your child may make a mrrrhp sound left alone too long.’

Do you think the elves that have a more animalistic appearance (like Blödhgarm) consume meat as their animal counterpart does? Could be interesting to think about how that transformation has unintended consequences such as craving fish or deer

I think that depends on the extent of their physical transformation and how much they still identify with their elven culture and traditions. Blödhgarm, for example, might stick to the traditions he’s grown with, while the furred snake from the Agaetí Blödhren might prefer to eat the mice and rodents of the field like their wild counterparts. Or the she-wolf, for that matter.

As far as I can tell, the shifts only truly affect them physically, but I do love the idea that, if inspired by the mind and instincts of the animal as well, they might end up adopting the mindset of that animal or become so familiar with it that the instincts—such as hunting—become engrained.

Can’t say for sure, but it is a fun thought!
