Introducing Mike! The newest addition to the art team!

Mike was actually our FIRST EVER intern back in 2013 when we were developing ‘Flutter: Butterfly Sanctuary’. During that time we were asked to help out with some 2D animations for a kids TV show that was produced by a different department in the same building as us and after the internship Mike was offered full time work as an animator for that show! So we have known him for a really long time and we’ve always had a secret wish that Mike would one day come and work with us! A few months back our wish came true and Mike joined the runway art team full time!

Mike is real wholesome an talented. I asked him to send me a selfie he’s drawn and he gave me 3 options. They where all so good I decided to use them all! 

It always felt to us that Mike really belonged with Runaway, so we’re more than happy that after 5 years the true destiny is fulfilled! Welcome to the team! ❤️

So excited to finally be able to share what we have been working on for the past year! Our first VR game AND our first game made in 3D! 

We have learned so many new things working on this project and we can't wait to launch this game to the world (VERY SOON) and after that, share all the behind the scenes art with you guys!!!

Inktober

Making of the Luna Lionfish

We first started working on the Luna Lionfish in the middle of 2014 during the pre-production of splash, (back then the game went under the temporary name ‘Under the Sea’). During that time we focused on the feel of character more than anything else.

One year after that first sketch we needed to refine the Lionfish. One reason being that we needed to update it to the style we had developed during that year, and another reason being we needed sketches more suitable for making it into game assets. We then made two more sketches focusing on color and behavior.

The last stage before animation we have to brake down the previous work into smaller parts and recreate it in illustrator.

We made this add creative a few months back when it was still summer in Dunedin ☀️ We shot it at a tree in a park just outside our office! It didn’t preform very well but I think it’s one of the prettier ones we have done! Plus @liliyydraws is looking super cute in it!
