Wings for Life 18 by Paul Radovic.
I had been looking forward to this event for awhile, 3 years in fact.
I arrived at about 7:30pm to a happy bunch of LRC’s busily taking photos, talking to tv crew and some were also live on Facebook. Then we assembled into our wave sections 1 through to 4. I assembled in section 2 with Jade, Narelle, Vince and Kirsty (aka Ashish as he won a last minute entry and the bib name was still Kirsty). We then headed to the start line and waited to begin.
Narelle, Vince and Ashish started off quickly and Jade and I set off at a strong pace trying to get past 10 km before being taken out by the catcher car. At about 8 km Jade told me run ahead, so then I tried to catch up to Narelle; we wanted to get beyond 15 km. At the 16 km mark the car was fast approaching, its horn sounding every time they passed someone. A quick attempt to sprint resulted in me being overtaken at 16.66km. Narelle and l then caught the bus back to the event hub where upon arriving, was greeted with cheers and hugs from the amazing support crew of Simone and Jacky. Then back to the LRC tent to refuel with cake and lollies and catch up with how everyone else did and was still doing. All in all, it was an awesome time, running with fantastic company. Definitely coming back next year.
