I am currently working on my storyline for HMS. Right now, I’m currently making a sort of “heritage” tree, if that makes sense. I’ll post it when I’m done making it, but for now here’s a sneak peak!

now... this is one which has really intrigued me.

i back the idea of shipping lupin with both molly and arthur weasley because it's clear in canon that he really values the emotional support they provide him - and, specifically, how this emotional support takes place in a domestic context alongside other forms of comfort [such as having a decent meal for once] which lupin desperately needs.

and ron does seem to be reasonably well-suited to also providing this comfort - he mentions lupin looking underfed and ill multiple times in prisoner of azkaban, for example, and we know that he's perfectly happy expressing his affection for people by looking after them.

but it's striking - outside of prisoner of azkaban - that ron takes the same view that harry does: that lupin is considerably less important and impressive than sirius.

while sirius is still alive, ron never alludes to lupin as someone he considers an authority or someone whose respect he is interested in winning - and he never seems to consider it unusual that lupin is never in contact with harry, whereas he encourages him frequently to write to sirius.

in half-blood prince and deathly hallows this changes a bit [ron is, for example, "smug" when lupin validates his certainty that the trio weren't found by the death eaters on tottenham court road because harry still had the trace on him], but with the authority ron had previously projected onto sirius transferred to harry [ron doesn't intervene when harry is berating lupin for leaving the pregnant tonks - although he says that he didn't agree with harry's points once lupin is no longer there - whereas he does, for example. intervene when he thinks hermione is trying to undermine sirius by giving kreacher clothes].

you have, then, the thing which i think is interesting in a lot of post-marauders-era ships with lupin also present here - that lupin isn't someone that the lightning generation [with the exception of his ride-or-die stan, dean thomas] particularly care about outside of the confines of the classroom. and so i think that the fun for an author becomes trying to work out what the hook is... because it's certainly not obvious to me.

[what is obvious? that ron fancies tonks - he's so beautifully worried during the seven potters chase that lupin will deck him for touching her, and it always sends me.]

As always, Rupin hails his customer with unrequited enthusiasm, cheeks red and puffy from the clownish grin he forces daylong. Not so typical, however, is the absence of tears threatening to leak through his squinted eyes. No, these are beady, even shrewd, not unlike the persona he acquires by night when…

Oh, goddesses, not now.

“Ah, Link!” Rather than groveling wordlessly as he so often does, Rupin spreads his arms wide. “So good to see that you’re still in one piece! Your associates have been making quite a fuss about your absence.”

Stomach knotting, Link reaches gingerly into his wallet, producing a pair of red rupees. “Two bundles of arrows, please.”

“Oh dear.”

Rupin clicks his tongue with a shake of his head, yet that obnoxious grin only seems to widen. Here it comes.

“You see, your commanding officer has given me explicit instructions not to supply you with weapons or ammunition of any kind. How unfortunate…”

“I thought the customer was always right?” He knows it’s futile, that there’s only one way to reason with the man, but still.

“Yes, this is true. And yet, with the amount of stock purchased by your commander and comrades, there’s no denying whose right outweighs the other, eh?”

Rupin crosses his arms, tilting his head as though in invitation. Link’s remain flat at his sides.

This man, the demon’s voice snarls in his head, secure me to his back, and see if I can’t be more persuasive.

The knight ignores him, though the appeal is certainly there. Folding his own arms, Link nods towards the bomb flowers resting on the shopkeeper’s trolley. “Those look ripe,” he observes, treading lightly. “Seems like it wasn’t long ago that I stuck my neck out and brought you the seeds from Eldin, huh?”

Really, sky child. Why barter when you can threaten?

He has to stop himself from swatting at the sword’s hilt, though the distraction is brief. When that ghoulish smile turns sour, it’s only for a second.

“Why, yes.” The grin returns, although it reaches neither his tone nor his eyes. “I suppose you think I owe you…”

Now sporting a smirk of his own, Link hums in agreement.

“Well then.” A shrug. “I suppose I could look the other way…”

He holds his breath, lest it kindle his hopes too high.

“… for an increased rate.”

And there it is. “Mhm. How much?”
