Sam Kerr ACL
So I'm going to need 5-10 financial years to fucking recover.
It's tragic news to wake up to, finding our Sam's ruptured her ACL in training in Morocco. But with good support within the medical team and her club and national teammates, plus Kristie now in London, I'm confident she will come back strong.
Unfortunately this does mean she has played her last game under Emma Hayes which is devastating and not something anyone was hoping for considering how close the two clearly are.
It also means she will miss the rest of the season. This includes;
The Women's Super League
The FA cup
UWCL
Olympic qualifiers
probably the start of next season (praying for the renewal)
this is a devastating blow after she had to miss half her home World Cup due to a calf injury she only just reportedly has fully returned to full health from.
Speaking of renewal, I think a lot of us do still expect her to extend her contract. Not only so she isn't out of one when she's ready to come back, but obviously she really loves Chelsea. Plus Kristie's contract is ~18 months, meaning once Sam should hopefully be back, Kristie will still have 8-9ish months left at WH without renewal.
ACL recovery takes 8-9 months on average so hoping she'll be back September/October, but most importantly I want her to take time. We should not be putting pressure on her to get better as quick as possible or anything of the sort. We most certainly should not worry about how we as a club or country perform until the time comes or something warrants worry; that is Tony and Emma's job and we should leave them to figure it out and develop their respective teams, not just around the fact Sam is missing, but around who they have on the team and who they are playing.
I think that's all I have to say for now but if you have any questions about it or quite literally almost anything else to do with footy, let me know and I'll try and answer!
Sending best wishes and thoughts to Sam <3 do it in your time, and I'm sorry you have to miss so much
