Tetra Pak Sweet Peas all summer long.

I've spent the past week talking an awful lot about rubbish. The binmen and women went on strike in Brighton last week leaving trash to pile up all over the city. 

From observing the litter, I really took it to heart how full the bins were of recyclable items as well as food, clothes and toys. Stuff that we should not be throwing away. I wrote about it last week in this post "The trouble with rubbish", and our local paper found it interesting enough to publish an extract on Saturday. 

One of the main points I highlighted, was the lack of information around how to recycle Tetra Paks in Brighton & Hove. Instead of putting them into your recycling boxes, you need to take them to a Tetra Pak recycling point. Or even better than that, create planters to attach to your fire escape and have delicately scented sweet peas growing outside your bedroom window all summer long. 

I initially blogged about how I did this back in Feb so here is a reminder of their progress and an Instagram video to show you how they look now.

I hope this inspires you to grow some plants of your very own in cartons which most people regard as rubbish and I for one will be doing this again next year.
