‘Mouse fever’ outbreak leaves Putin’s troops with vomiting and severe headache

Outbreak of so-called ‘mouse fever’ recorded in many units of Russian forces in Kupiansk

Putin's invading troops in Ukraine's east are suffering from an unpleasant and debilitating disease called mouse fever (мышиная лихорадка). The Russian military is providing little to no medical assistance and often dismisses complaints from soldiers about the malady as excuses to get away from combat.

Vladimir Putin’s soldiers in eastern Ukraine’s Kupiansk are reportedly falling sick because of a “mouse fever” outbreak – a viral disease that has left the invading Russian troops severely unwell. The outbreak of the so-called “mouse fever” has been recorded in many units of the Russian forces in the Kupiansk direction, the Ukrainian Ministry of Defence’s main directorate of intelligence said on its official Telegram channel. “The disease is viral in nature and is transmitted to humans from rodents through direct contact with a causative agent as a result of inhaling dust from mouse excrement or getting it into food products consumed by humans,” it said. Symptoms of this fever “mowing down” Russian soldiers include vomiting, severe headache, fever up to 40 degrees celsius (104 degrees fahrenheit), rashes, redness, plummeting blood pressure, haemorrhages in the eyes and nausea. Ukraine’s intelligence wing said dissatisfaction was growing among Russian soldiers who are facing abandonment on medical assistance and provision of winter items, and the recent fever outbreak was an example of Russia’s inability to look after its troops fighting in Ukraine. The disease is also affecting the kidneys, as the infected Russian troops were facing intense pain in their lower back and have severe difficulty in urinating, officials said. “Complaints about fever from personnel of the Russian army, who are involved in the war against Ukraine, were ignored by the command, regarding them as another manifestation of evasion from participating in combat operations. In addition, at the first stage of the course, "mouse fever" resembles an ordinary flu,” the statement added.

Ukrainian intelligence should try to spread the rumor among Russians that vodka is a great home remedy for mouse fever. 🙂

Ukrainian forces have also been affected by the rodent problem but they have several advantages. Being on their home turf, they're able to bring cats to the front. They also have far better access to competent medical personnel. Plus the Ukrainians are just plain better at basic housekeeping.

The way the Kremlin has reacted to the mouse fever problem among its troops is yet another way it regards them as disposable.

The Ukrainian military's own estimate is 352,390 Russian fatalities (as of December 23rd). That Ukrainian figure is almost the same as the population of Honolulu. Indeed, 39 of the 50 US states have capitals whose populations are below the number of Russian fatalities in Ukraine. Putin doesn't care how many RUSSIANS he has to kill to get his way in Ukraine.

Russians need to either get rid of Putin or leave the country in order to save themselves.

Russia 'struggling with supply of weapons and ammunition' for Ukraine war - Western officials

Reports of Russian shortages come as concerns over the provision of Western weapons to Ukraine mount.

Russia is a closed totalitarian society. Greater effort is required to determine what is going on beneath the surface. Despite Tucker Carlson's glowing propaganda postcards from Moscow, Russia is experiencing what might charitably be called supply chain issues in its illegal war of aggression against Ukraine.

Russia is struggling to provide ammunition and weapons for its war in Ukraine, according to Western officials. It is facing "extreme challenges" in obtaining sufficient equipment and materiel, an official said. It comes as concerns over the provision of Western weapons to Ukraine are mounting. As the war enters its third year, the supply of ammunition, arms and manpower looks set to be a critical factor. "Russia's domestic ammunition production capabilities are currently insufficient for meeting the needs of the Ukraine conflict," a Western official claimed, saying Moscow has been able to increase its supply only by seeking out alternative sources of ammunition and weapons, which does not offer a long-term solution. They pointed to the impact of sanctions as one cause. "Sanctions are hitting the Russian military industrial complex hard, causing severe delays and increasing costs. An inability to access Western components is severely undermining Russia's production of new systems and repairs of old systems, with long-term consequences for the quality of weapons produced," they said.

This is the time to supply Ukraine with more aid. But assistance is being held up by MAGA American weakness Republicans led by Putin ally Donald Trump.

The claims about Russian weapons supply come ahead of the second anniversary of Russia's invasion of Ukraine on 24 February. The assessment from Western officials is that Russia has not given up on its original goals of "subjugating" Ukraine. But they said Russia does not have a clear plan to bring that about other than hoping that in the long term its superior manpower and resources will make the difference by grinding its neighbour down. Russia is currently producing more ammunition than Ukraine is receiving. However, Russia may be close to its limits of supply while there remains the possibility that Ukraine could still get more from its allies.

Putin really doesn't want the world, and especially Russia, to know about the catastrophic extent of Russian losses. One pro-war Russian blogger killed himself after he was forced to remove posts about massive Russian fatalities in their Pyrrhic advance through Avdiivka.

Russian war blogger reportedly dies by suicide after saying 16,000 Russian troops lost in battle for Avdiivka

Multiple Russian pro-war Telegram channels have reported that Andrey Morozov, a Russian soldier who runs a popular Telegram channel and goes by the pseudonym Murz, has died by suicide. Lawyer Maxim Pashkov, who said he spoke to Morozov the previous night, reported that the military blogger shot himself. According to Pashkov, there was “no sign” during their conversation that Morozov was considering taking his life. On Wednesday morning, Morozov published a series of posts on his channel in which he said that he was going to shoot himself and asked his readers “not to be sad” about his death. He asked to be buried in the self-proclaimed “Luhansk People’s Republic.” Morozov wrote that on February 20, his superiors forced him to delete a post from his channel. According to BBC Russian, this likely refers to a post in which Morozov said that the Russian army lost 16,000 soldiers and 300 armored vehicles during the battle for control of the village of Avdiivka. The BBC noted that the post drew fierce criticism from Russian propagandists, who accused the blogger of “slandering the Russian Defense Ministry.” According to Morozov’s final messages, the order from his superiors was issued under pressure from the “political prostitutes led by [propagandist] Vladimir Solovyov.”

Interestingly, the late Andrey Morozov's estimate of 16,000 Russian deaths was not far from the Ukrainian estimate of 17,000 dead Russians in the same operation. Overall, Ukrainian figures of Russian losses are reasonably accurate.

Always take news from the Russian government with a few tons of salt.

Despite burn and scorch damage, it's clear that the patch from the dead soldier is unmistakably Russian. It looks like they may have tried to photoshop the remaining telltale lettering away. There also seems to be a Russian red star on the hat of the caricature.

The rather odd inscription is: РУССКАЯ ТАКТИЧЕСКАЯ БОРОДА It means "Russian Tactical Beard". It doesn't seem to be a unit but rather some sort of community. They even have an account at VK which is Russia's largest social network.

Just for comparison, this would be the same phrase in Ukrainian: РОСІЙСЬКА ТАКТИЧНА БОРОДА; Ukrainian nominative feminine adjective grammatical endings tend to be -А rather than -АЯ. No Ukrainian would be caught dead wearing that Russian patch. If you do a search for "УКРАЇНСЬКА ТАКТИЧНА БОРОДА" (Ukrainian tactical beard) that style doesn't show up.

Those patches do come in a variety of fonts and colors.

Because Missing In Action is not the same as Killed In Action, Russia has a habit of abandoning the bodies of its dead on the battlefield. That way Putin doesn't have to pay relatives of the dead soldier any survivor's benefits. By pretending those Russian tank crew members are Ukrainian, Putin can pocket a few more rubles to help build another palace for himself.

As for that Russian, misidentified as Ukrainian, he joins over 216,000 other Russians as fatalities in Putin's three-day "special operation".

Putin is making the Soviet involvement in Afghanistan look like the good old days.

Russian fatalities as of Sunday are now greater than the individual populations of 21 US state capitals. That number surpassed the population of Springfield, Illinois (114,394) a couple of days ago.

FYI: Monday is Day 337 of Putin’s two-day “special operation”.

The current project (not counting murdering Ukrainian civilians) by Russia is the attempt to capture the town of Soledar with its salt mines. Even if the Russians succeed, it’s mostly a useless effort which has been costing Russia thousands of lives. A geologist describes the mines of Soledar.

Ukraine could always copy Tywin Lannister and simply flood those tunnels if Russia captures them.

The pro-Putin tabloid Komsomolskaya Pravda accidentally published stats on Russian war dead which show a far higher number of fatalities than the Kremlin has previously admitted. Russia reported just under 500 dead, but that was about three weeks ago and no new stats were reported until Komsomolskaya Pravda's article.

9,861 deaths were reported by Komsomolskaya Pravda but an hour later the article was scrubbed with the death toll removed.  Here’s the deleted paragraph which was archived.

Ukraine has estimated roughly 15,000 Russian dead as of Tuesday. Updated estimates are reported daily by Ukraine.

For comparison, the Soviet Union’s 9+ year war in Afghanistan cost the lives of 14,453 Soviet troops. If the Soviet-Afghan War had gone as badly as invasion of Ukraine is going for Russia, the Soviet side would have lost 1,074,900 dead; and that’s using the low Komsomolskaya Pravda figure.

I read elsewhere that the 9,861 deaths include only Ministry of Defense troops. Russia has a plethora of security agencies and if those are added to the ministry’s total then the grand total could be very close to what Ukraine has reported.

It’s easy to see why Putin is attempting to suppress the news. But some day the truth will emerge and many people in Russia will be very angry.

The number of Russian fatalities in Putin’s invasion of Ukraine is now over 200,000.

200,590 is greater than the populations of 29 of the 50 US state capitals. By another measure, that’s the equivalent of about 46% of all the US military fatalities in World War II.

Some people claim the stats from Ukraine’s Ministry of Defense are high. But last year Russia accidentally released its own stats online and they were fairly close to the Ukrainian estimates of the time.

So when there’s an updated version of this book, the authors will need to include a chapter on Vladimir Putin.

Today is Day 449 of Putin’s 3 day invasion. He keeps replacing commanders at a dizzying pace.

The implication is that it’s their fault and not his that the war isn’t going well for Russia. Never mind who originally chose the generals and started the war in the first place.

Putin will go down in history as an enormous failure in addition to being a war criminal.

More cannon fodder won’t help. Russia has already lost over 97,000 troops and almost 3,000 main battle tanks. And Russia should know better than anybody that big winter offensives in that part of the world tend not to go well. Just ask the late Napoléon Bonaparte.

Putin is doing more to wreck Russia than anybody since Adolph Hitler.
