As poorly as some parts of B5 have aged, the thing that pisses me off the most on rewatches is always the same. The impact of Talia’s death on Garibaldi is shown more than the impact on Ivanova. She brings up her dead girlfriend a couple times, always briefly. Garibaldi complains about it way more.
And yes, that’s in line with their characters. Garibaldi’s much more brash and reckless, Ivanova’s more reserved and can’t afford to pick a fight with PsiCorps because she’s a rogue. But she’s got a hell of a lot more reason to be angry than Michael Garibaldi does. So much of the narrative weight on her is left to the viewer to figure out, and show don’t tell is great, but I still wanted to see it more directly.
