I've decided that I'm not very good at writing my own posts for #oneshortmonth. I'd much rather read and interact on everyone else's posts, but I've got to say that I loved listening to the audio recording of "Rusties" (by Nnedi Okorafor and Wanuri Kahiu). It's a very conversational first-person narrative so listening to it really takes you there (especially with the accent). Furthermore, I just really liked this story. There were so many plausible details that made the near-feature world feel real--dare we even say inevitable?

Thoughts before reading: I love Okorafor’s work, so I was excited.

Rating: 5/5 (Spoilers ahead.)

What did you like: The story of robot uprising has been told many times, but this story had something special. The emotional touch is what made it great—both the emotional touch of why the robots first rose, and the touch of the main character’s connection to her local traffic robot. It transforms the tale into something different.

What did you dislike: I think I might have preferred the story without the preparatory intro paragraph, but that’s all. 

Would you read more by this author: I have Lagoon on my shelf and an arc of Akata Warrior on the way to my mailbox, so certainly yes.
