Is there anything you'd like to see in this volume in RWBY? Do you have any ships on the show?

(This has been sitting in my inbox for weeks, along with a handful of other asks, and I’m sorry! Though I still post here, I don’t spend as much time on tumblr as I used to and I sort of forgot about answering asks.)

Under a cut for Volume 7 spoilers.

I didn’t really go into this volume with much of a wishlist, but more of a sense of interest in where the story was going. I drifted away from RWBY during volumes 4 and 5, but volume 6 pulled me back in and got me excited about the series in a way I haven’t been in quite a long time. It took a while, but it really feels to me like RWBY has found its footing as a series and its direction as a story. There is a greater sense of continuity between volumes, and stronger character dynamics overall. 

One thing I certainly look forward to is watching Blake and Yang’s relationship grow (slow is fine, as long as it’s going somewhere!), and v7 is certainly delivering some great moments on that front. I’m also hoping to see signs of a character arc for Ruby, and eagerly watching for developments on Oscar and what his future role in the story will be.

I do have a few ships! Blake/Yang is certainly one, and their reconciliation in volume 6 meant a lot to me. (I also like Blake/Weiss and Weiss/Yang as ships, but Blake/Yang is kind of the number one for me.) Ruby/Penny is another that volume 7 rekindled with a vengeance.

Another big ship of mine is poly!STRQ (with some caveats I won’t get into here, maybe in another post) which has, after Raven’s departure and Summer’s death, become just Tai/Qrow on-again off-again, they still love each other but it’s not the same anymore, but Qrow is very much still the girls’ other dad regardless of genetics, etc. What can I say, I like sadness and complicated relationships and unconventional families that are struggling but doing their best.

I also dig Qrow/Ironwood. Possibly in a universe where Qrow has kind of an open Thing with both Tai and James.

Oscar did say that Ozpin guided him in the last episode of V6, after Ruby turned attention to it, there was a flashback with Oz's voice in it too. Also, Mantle isn't in the sky, it's the land Atlas was detached from.

You’ll all have to bear with me, I only really got back into RWBY last volume and there’s a lot of it I haven’t seen more than once or twice, so my ignorance of the lore is showing. Sorry!

A Very Short Wish List for RWBY Volume 6

No adding new magical universe elements. We work with the ones we already have. At least one of the other three Maidens actually plays a major role in this volume. Same with the relics.

Ruby gets a character arc.

5. first headcanon that pops into my head

Yang reads to me as the kind of person for whom social bonds are incredibly important--like, directly tied to her mental health kind of important. She’s clearly a bouyant extrovert and I think it’s very telling that a) she is the one who seeks out Blake for a private chat when Blake is spiraling, and b) what crushes her at the end of volume 3 is not her injury, it’s her school (the social center of her life) being destroyed, and all her friends disappearing. I could even see Yang having a bit of an overactive sense of empathy, the kind where she connects strongly with people but can also experience some detrimental emotional bleed from intense relationships if she can’t self-regulate.
