Yeah so I 100% agree that Yang going in immediately for the comfort hug as Blake collapsed in tears is exactly what a supportive, understanding close friend would do (especially one with shared trauma connected to the man they just killed!), and CRWBY nailed this! It's really obvious that's what a good friend and teammate would do.

Oh, but wait, they felt like they had to add the part where Blake swears to not break her promise to not leave Yang? Like it was her #1 priority in the midst of her pain to reassure Yang that she would stay? And that Adam trying to fool Yang into believing she'd leave her again because she has left them both before scared Blake? Thinking it would ruin the complete trust she had been trying to re-establish, so afraid that Adam had once again tainted the connection she had with Yang. That's pretty deep; obviously Blake really cares about what Yang thinks of her and how much she trusts her to keep her promise. Blake knows Yang is hurt so personally when she's abandoned that she never wants it to happen again - and she needs Yang to know that. And she needs someone that will treat her like she deserves (eg. SHE DESERVES THE WORLD).

And instead of Yang just saying, like, thank you? Thank you for proving you understand why I was hurt and just staying in the hug? She's the one that looks Blake in the eye and hands back the reassurance that she knows. She doesn't need Blake to say it to believe her because she's proven that there's nothing she could have done better. Yang wants Blake to know that she fully trusts her to keep to her word. Her reply is unequivocal. Yang was able to face her fear of Adam because Blake was right there next to her, and she faced off with him even though she could have died this time.

But not just that?? Yang cups Blake's face so tenderly, and they touch their foreheads together with eye contact - Yang hasn't even done that onscreen to her own little sister that she loves more than anyone, arguably. CRWBY purposefully added more depth and went beyond friendship for this scene. Sharing an important moment was taken further with a lot of specific additions that aren't thoughtless. Their - and by extension even Blake's and Yang's - actions can speak louder than words. They spent time writing and animating every detail of that scene. They could have left it at hug and look at each other...

but we all know it's so much easier to spend time, effort and budget on blasting right through the boundary of friendly and making it ambiguous as fuck just to mess with shippers lol

I will never be able to thank you for what you set out to do. You've achieved amazing things; your effort transcending your own lifetime, and it's so unfair you can't experience this with us. We can lose people in an instant. Taking a few minutes to solely focus on you is one way to honour you, and your work, because you affected countless lives.

There's no words to describe how it feels to see that LGBTQ+ characters were written into RWBY in its beginnings. That we aren't an afterthought, we're normal, and we deserve to exist not just to please a certain group. That you cared.

You're helping people, and I like to think you would have known that. Thank you for your hand in helping me realise that I'm part of the LGBTQ+ community, Monty. You'll never be able to read this, but my gratitude remains.

We will keep moving forward, not just for you, but with you.
