Season 2 Episode 4

(I should probably do one on episode 2)

Okay, episode just ended like 30 seconds ago, and I have never felt more anxiety for a show in my life.

Julian not showing up?

Jay not showing up? I thought Ryan or Dylan were going to get shot. So glad they didn't.

Also, the way they portrayed the teens (Alex's new friends) was incredibly inaccurate. Maybe it's because I don't live in a city like LA or NYC or anything, but those teens were assholes. If any teen I know was being interrogated by the freaking police, there is no way in hell they would be flashing out their phones like that and making fun of the police. I've never seen teens be that disrespectful.

To be honest, at the beginning scene, I felt more bad for the stepmom than the teens, even though Ella was portrayed as an "evil stepmom." Alex literally just commanded her to fire some poor kid without explanation for Ella to earn Alex's respect.

Also, when Lizzie and Dylan figured out the apple poison, they said Ella wasn't the evil stepmother, she was Cinderella. They criticize the teens for not knowing the fairytales, but they literally just confused Snow White and Cinderella.

I'm really going on a tirade about the teens, huh? I've just never met teenagers so bitchy.

I legitimately thought Kim during the middle of all of that would be the murderer. At first I knew she'd be a suspect later on, they never give that much screentime to a person who wouldn't be a suspect. But I thought that to earn Alex's respect, she'd poison her stepmother that she hated. Seriously, there is no reason why an AP student should have access to chemicals without teacher supervision.

Also Harris and Jasmine? Whoaaaaaa, what??? There is no way they are skimming over that.

Also, low-key agree with that Jewish Richard Gere joke.

I also thought he was talking to Lizzie at first.

Ugh, I also love that Dylan is taking Andy to all the gatherings with Lizzie or work parties, and integrating Andy into his work life, yay.

Lizzie being promoted to second grade detective and the surprise everyone set up for her was really cute, the entire precinct respects her so much.

I don't know why Dylan is supportive of his viral video now. Also I don't understand how that 2010 looking meme would've gone viral.

And this episode is slipping away from me, gotta rewatch it and continue this.... will update later...

Instinct S02E05 “Ancient History”

Season 2 Episode 3

Definitely my personal favorite episode of this season. It was great!

It didn't follow a cookie-cutter plot like some of the other episodes (some one died, oh wow, the culprit is someone we knew of but didn't question or question enough!)

What kinda surprised me was Lizzie opening up her backstory, since she doesn't usually do that, it's Dylan's backstory that's always prodded at, and I'm glad they went back and mentioned Lizzie's mom and Katie, who I'd totally forgotten. I thought they'd go into Dylan's childhood a bit more, since he kinda went through a rough childhood as well, but Lizzie's does fit in well.

Also, they've all just completely ditched the Dylan analysis thingy that replays events as they happened with blue tint.

Also that Sam thing could've been a bit less shocking. We'd never heard of Sam, and then suddenly the Wilson-Reinharts are going to father her child. Out of sheer coincidence.

(is it foreshadowing when Andy looked over an Asian baby at the precinct and will then adopt an Asian baby?)

I kinda like Sam, she's cool and witty, I don't know if we'll see more of her because she'll be moving back to Sacramento, but since her boss is adopting her baby, they probably want to talk to her a bit more.

Jasmine is absolutely picking up on Jules, she must notice he's too good at his job. Also the feeds included private security footage. Did I heard that correctly? Hmmm...

Can I just mention that TVW is a gorgeous human being?

The ending of this episode was so sweet and cute, I'm just not totally buying the group hug between Robby and his dad and grandparents, that's just hella weird considering their hatred for each other for more than the past five years.

Harris and his freaking workout outfit, man.

Also totally proud of myself for noticing that van driver when he was first shown, but then shrugged it off until they brought him up again.

Instinct post-finale thoughts

That. Was how they decided to end it??

I am... Underwhelmed.

I mean, I'm glad they didn't kill off any characters for the sake of it or leave us on a massive claffhanger that'd never be resolved... But that last episode didn't feel like a finale.

Where's the grandeur? Where's the 'yeah, this is the end and our characters can't acknowledge that but we all know it anyway' subtext??

This episode felt like it could be dropped anywhere in the season and still kinda make sense, and I'm a little disappointed. Even if when they wrote and filmed this ep they didn't know it'd be the show's last, I'd at least expect them to give it the season finale flair I guess I've grown to expect.

I know this shows a goofy, fairly unknown Sausage and Mash crime drama, but I guess I expected a little more.

Still, I do love this show and I will indeed insist that my future child(ren) watch it. I do love me some buddy cop drama with a side of gay Husbands and a healthy dosage of cute dog.

Comedy Daredevil / Ryan Stock taking a classic pub trick to new levels...

After this he used a much bigger knife, and went a lot faster. I wish I had got a video, but honestly, I was too stunned to think of it. Watching Ryan's performances had me genuinely terrified and holding my breath for the first time in years, speaking as someone who’s become quite accustomed to shock acts and live stunts (largely thanks to the Circus of Horrors). Don't even get me started on the revving-chainsaw-between-the-teeth bit.....
