9-1-1: Nashville is kind of funny because usually in a multi-generational drama series the younger generation gets all or most of the angsty romantic melodrama and the older married couple, even while they have their own problems, is the supporting beta couple that's a steady cornerstone and aspirational example for the younger generation—but here it's almost the other way around. Taylor and Blue took their handful of episodes to get together and now they're just cute and pretty smooth-sailing. Roxie’s got her romantic trauma but she's coming out the other side of it. Ryan and Sam began the show separated but reconciled and now have a baby on the way. Meanwhile, Blythe & Don + Dixie, the “grown-ups”, are still getting mad and fighting about stuff from 2 to 3 decades ago. Like, good grief. To the point that Ryan is so over it he’s abdicated himself from the narrative and knowledge of his parents’ drama, lol (even Cammie, the other older generationer, is having a very sweet but very slow burn Second Love story).
