thats a nice analysis. but im suspicious that vriska and terezi's moirallegiance will become unstable. because vriska is unstable. she is clearly still a huge jerkass who says horrible things to people and is probably planning on doing horrible things too. and terezi doesnt want to start any arguments with her even if she thinks shes in the wrong. but that might put terezi at heads with her other friends who are standing up to vriska.

literally the definition of a moirallegience is is stabilizing an unstable partner. vriska being unstable is the entire point of their moirallegience, or at least half the point. 

vriska and terezi have had exactly one onscreen argument since vriska was retconned back into existence. it began with terezi voicing an objection to one of vriska’s decisions, quite loudly, because she thought vriska was in the wrong. vriska explained her reasoning for her actions, then conceded that terezi could do things her way if she really wanted. terezi agreed to go with vriska’s plan at least for now, partially because she at least somewhat agreed with vriska’s logic, and partially because she didn’t want to interact with a creepy clown who regularly abused her in another timeline. so i really don’t see any of what you’re saying here. 

also, being a jerkass who is horrible to some people doesn’t mean she’s completely incapable of genuinely caring about anyone at all (or did you skip her entire arc with john in act 5?) that would make her a really, really boring character, frankly.

Read your page on why Terezi is in a good place. I think you are right about her evolution and what she needs to be happy. The core of why this relationship is bad is because of Vriska, who is now using that happiness and keeping her complacent. Just because one has errored in one way does not mean that they can't then error in the opposite direction, in fact it is quite common. While more innocent this will have its own consequence. Balance is everything with Rezi, yet she has swung to one side

that’s another way of saying vriska is manipulating terezi. we just established that this isn’t what terezi looks like when she’s being manipulated, and there’s a lovely post on liada180′s tumblr which i can’t be arsed to find right now that explains in equal detail why this isn’t what vriska looks like when she’s manipulating someone. when vriska is manipulating someone, she doesn’t just keep quiet about it until the benefits come around - she gloats, before, during, and after.

yes, vriska is a huge 8itch still, but it IS possible for her to genuinely care for someone. she’s shown it many times - most often with john, but with others as well. 

per “complacency”, the argument they had about how to use the kernelsprites, it was an argument about terezi’s character arc of passing judgment on others, and vriska was right to (passive aggressively) point out that terezi was trying not to do that anymore. 

i’m confident terezi WILL have her big, validating moment of striking balance between the two extremes. i’m also confident vriska’s presence will help her achieve that moment, not hinder.

it's not a terribly canon-supported idea though. all the trolls look like what trolls look like, AND they're a perfectly diverse group with one of each caste. it makes more sense for the humans to be ethnically diverse as well, but sometimes i wonder if trolls' general familiarity with slime made karkat a slightly more competent ectobiologist than john. plus there was also that line in the narration where kanaya was remarking on rose's appearance when she first saw her, describing rose as having "skin as white as a ghost". so since race is such a touchy subject and also since four or even eight humans is not enough to embody every single racial grouping on planet earth (a bit difficult to do since there is obviously no actual lines between them, just a smooth gradient of color), i think it was creative of hussie to sidestep the issue altogether and let people imagine whatever they wanted. an inadvertent mutation for literally paper-white skin is just one of my more peculiar imaginings. ^_^

i once read a fanfic where the kids were all completely sexless because of how ectobiology works and cobbled together gender identities on their own. it tied in that the kids were never actually "named" until they were thirteen, aka until they decided on a gender presentation. it was neat.

Thank you for your thoughts on the upd8. What's funny is that I agreed with your train of thought until it happened, and then Hussie's lack of grace (probably accenting how wrong this'll feel for a bit) kinda catapulted me away in disgust. But thanks!! You're a good Seer of Heart

oh gosh thank u! probably the easiest way to get past the lack of grace (that has honestly been evident throughout most of the comic) is to remember what this would look like to an archival reader. everything from Game Over to now could be read in, like, a couple of hours. maybe even less. when looked at this way, you realize that there's not as much being retconned out as you think.

of course, there's no knowing what an alive Vriska would get up to on the meteor, but... now that i consider it, she COULD theoretically just do a lot of the same stuff she did while dead, since the meteor passes through dreambubbles so often. Tavrisprite is out, which means Jane must have prototyped something else, but apart from that, she could still wreak some serious havoc out in the void AND potentially develop the way she was meant to. assuming the two aren't mutually exclusive? ARGH let's just wait for the update that archival readers would already be reading by now without thinking all these complicated thoughts!

one last thing though: homestuck has always made a point of introducing thousands of doomed timelines and nullifying them, but still having them mean something - whether it's to the alpha timeline's progression, to the story itself in the form of themes to be repeated, or just to the readers. even if it gets retconned, nothing that happened here was pointless or meaningless. knowing how a character reacts in one scenario is frequently critical to understanding them in another. i don't know where all this is going just yet, but i'm pretty confident it'll be awesome!
