So I'm calling it -- Beck is an unreliable narrator, and everything he said needs to be taken with a grain of salt. I suspect that the only thing he said that was the unvarnished truth was that he was unstable.

Cause the picture that they tried to build in FFH was..... flawed. Tony stole BARF and palmed it off as his own?? Come on.

You're telling me that the guy who had his tech stolen and co-opted by Stane and used to try and kill him; the guy who had to face the fall out of a Vanko Jr who was pissed at Howard Stark for stealing Vanko Snr's ideas; that the guy who lived through the "I couldn't get funding so I sold Extremis to a private think tank who then turned it into a weapon which is never what it was meant to be" saga; the dude who saw the fall out between Hank Pym and Howard Stark over tech ownership disputes; the guy who had the Mind Stone steal his vision of a suit of armour around the world and corrupt it into the polar opposite of what it was supposed to be; the guy who gave massive grants to a whole bunch of college kids and told them to make their dreams a reality and told them to reframe the future........ You're telling me that that guy palmed off someone else's invention as his own? Come off it. That's not remotely in character. Not to mention wildly unnecessary, given Tony's unbridled technical creativity.

What is probably in character for Beck, however, is that he has rewritten history in his own head. The dude specialises in illusions after all, and you'll never fool anyone of a falsehood the way you'll fool yourself.

I suspect that reality is that BARF was Tony's brainchild, but that he started the project off and then gave it to a team to keep working on; to perfect. Beck was probably on that team; Beck may even have been leading that team. So yeah, he probably worked on it. But I doubt it was his brainchild. I doubt it was his idea.

Because stealing ideas isn't remotely Tony's style. Heck, even when he created an entire new element in his basement, he gives most of the credit to his father. He could easily have claimed all the credit for that. Who was going to challenge him on it? Was Howard's ghost gonna ascend from the depths of hell to be like "actually that was my idea." Nup. There would have been no one to challenge tony if he had claimed full ownership of the new element design and creation, but he didn't do that. He gave his dad credit where it was due.

So this whole retconned "actually tony stole my idea and claimed it was his own and then he fired me" -- that smells an awful lot like bullshit to me. And I'm kind of a little bit salty very fucking salty that the MCU is pulling this shit after tony isn't here to defend himself. Pretty convenient. Tony's dead, and now folks can say what they like about him, and he's not around any more to pull disbelieving faces and be like "what the actual hell are you talking about." Douchebag move by the MCU.

Anyway. Tldr: Beck is full of shit and Tony was almost certainly the one who came up with BARF, but probably gave it to a team of people for them to flesh out and perfect. But that doesn't make it any less Tony's idea. And Beck tried to kill Peter and also smashed up Venice, London, and a bunch of other places, so we shouldn't listen to anything he says anyway.
