Happy New Year everyone!!!

Sorry for such a long period of inactivity. Life happened, and a lot of it was deeply unpleasant, but things are finally looking up again.

On the menu for this week we haaaveee:

A snippet that I just wrote because I miscounted how many Pulling Through asks I'd received:

Edna was right; once he got the motions down, he didn’t even need to think about what his hands were doing. The mechanicality of it all drew him in. He wasn’t speedy by any means, especially not in comparison to the others around him, but it was a welcome alternative to tapping his pens on a table. The click click click click of the needles was mildly irritating at first, but it eventually became just another background noise.

Thank you again to everyone who sent in asks the last time, and my apologies once more on how long it took me to get around to them.

Can't lie, as excited as I am for more AFTG content to come out I can't help but feel massively disheartened that this news came out when I'm not even halfway through my Silly Little Jean Moreau fic

He was too afraid of waking Jeremy up if he opened the door to their dorm, so he shoved his comforter to the side and remained in bed. 

In the short time Jean had been awake, he’d managed to instinctively block out any memory of the nightmare that snapped him out of his slumber. However, the constant patter of rain against the windows in the room were enough of a clue as to explain what memories he’d been reliving in his dreams that he didn't need to linger any further to find answers. 

Instead of getting up, Jean stared up at the ceiling, at the constellation of glow in the dark stars that Cat had sent him. And as he traced the shapes and patterns that were slowly becoming more and more familiar, Jean spotted the same lights from the suncatchers dancing over the stars, even though they were much fainter than normal.

As a child, Jean had been required to read plenty of books that his instructor told him were essential to understanding life. That they were the foundations on which he could start to understand countless other stories. 

And yet a book as simple as Perks of Being a Wallflower would, he knew, haunt him for the rest of his life. 

Jean didn’t bother wiping away the tear that dangled from the tip of his nose─his crooked, misshapen nose that had been broken more times than he could bother to remember. He was hollow yet filled, destroyed yet healed. It had been a long time since he’d last read something that had inflicted such turmoil in his soul, and he’d forgotten to brace himself. 

Jeremy was suddenly much closer, kneeling on the floor next to him. And then his arms were wrapped around Jean and he was tucking his head into Jean’s shoulder and dampening the fabric. It took Jean a few moments to regroup─for his brain to process what was happening and then compartmentalize the reactions that his body tried to have on a subconscious level. Eventually he was able to register the firmness in Jeremy’s grip on him, but also the care that he put in on being able to back away as soon as Jean said something. But Jean didn’t say anything. Instead, he loosely curled his arms around Jeremy and forced his body to relax.

“More times than I could count,” Jeremy responded hesitantly. “Is there a movie that you’d like to show me?” “I… wasn’t really allowed to watch many movies, as a child. To be honest, they kind of frustrate me. Sometimes I don’t pick up on what the characters are actually saying, so they can be difficult for me to follow.” “Do you like reading?” Jeremy asked, and upon seeing Jean furrow his eyebrows, started to clarify. “I noticed that you brought a fair number of books from Palmetto with you, so I kind of assumed…” “I do,” Jean said, “why?” “Well, it’s a rainy day.” “What does that have to do with anything?” “Rainy days are perfect for reading. We can do that instead of watching movies,” Jeremy said, a smile returning to his eyes. “Besides. You wanted to know if there was something I enjoyed that was for myself. I can lend you a book, if you’d like to try it out.” Jean nodded.  They spent the rest of the day curled up on the couch in the common area of the Tower, books open in their laps. Jeremy had handed Jean a very well-loved copy of Perks of Being a Wallflower, and he’d spent the entire day reading it.  Although not a long book by any means, Jean took his time with each page, and held the book as if it were as fragile as a baby bird.

There were tears streaming down Jean's face as he read the epilogue.

He looked up at Jeremy after his eyes landed on the last word and echoed in his mind, over the top of all the flashes of memories he'd already started to form that the main character's wonder reminded him of: infinite. Jeremy's eyes were trained on Jean, as if he was a specimen under a microscope.

"I know, right?" Jeremy whispered as his eyes started to well up. "Even thinking about those last few lines makes me emotional."

Jean genuinely had no idea what to do with himself. But there was a willingness to forgive that existed in the silence that stretched between them that gave him the bravery to reapproach the topic they’d been discussing earlier. “So,” he said softly, earning a raised eyebrow from Jeremy in response. “How many times has your sister made you watch that last one? The one where they go to a golf course?”
