❛     stop  it  -----------------   you  look  better  when  you  smile.   ❜          he  hums  softly  ,  chair  leg  balanced  on  his  shoulder  as  he  glances  over  at  him.        his  smile  is  CHEEKY.         ❛    eh.      you’ll  put  on  that  charming  ----  but  completely  fake  ----  smile  when  we  get  back.          i  bet  brody  will  be  SO  glad  to  see  you.   ❜        he  says  that  way  more  sarcastically  than  he  meant  to.           no  ,  he  meant  to.

     the second the offer leaves paige’s mouth, delphine already knows what her answer will be. the woman means well, she knows, but she can’t possibly understand. she doesn’t feel the way delphine does about her subject. besides, even if she had, tony isn’t sick. he isn’t deteriorating before her eyes with miles to go before they get their hands on a cure. 

      and what if cosima wakes while she’s away? what if she gets worse? no, delphine resolves, grip tightening around her lover’s limp hand, she’s not going anywhere. “thank you, paige, but i’ll be fine.” after all, it’s not herself that she’s worried about -- but that much needn’t be said. // @paigeatyourservice + cont.

       her head feels as if it’s stuffed full of cotton. her throat is on fire, and honestly, she’s not sure how much longer she’ll be keeping dinner down. all in all, delphine feels downright awful. but, naomi… she’s already ill enough. she has been for far too long, betrayed by her biology day in and day out, even before the ledas’ genetic condition reared its ugly head. 

       she shouldn’t have to take care of delphine now, too. 

       still, she’s right: after all, this is the fourth time delphine’s nearly nodded off at her desk in the past hour alone. so she bites down on the kneejerk i’m fine already waiting on the tip of her tongue, only nodding instead. “you’re right, chérie. thank you.” without naomi, she wouldn’t have taken a break any time soon; she would have only fought this until it, more likely than not, turned into something far worse. so delphine smiles as she takes the hand held out for her, letting naomi lead them both back to bed.

       “was i?” still only halfway freed from slumber’s clutches, delphine blinks up blearily at the clone hovering above her, backlit against soft sunlight. only when naomi’s statement sinks in does she falter, unsure of how to continue. naomi doesn’t sound accusing, though -- and besides, she couldn’t have given anything away in her sleep. could she? “and, euh, what… exactly, did i say?”

     delphine glances up from the meal she’s halfway through making for them both, brows raised high. just from what little she knows of helena, there’s no doubt in her mind that this story is true – but why she chose to share it now, she honestly couldn’t say. 

      nor does she know how to react to it. after all, for all delphine has seen and done, she’s never even come close to killing anyone. “i, euh… didn’t realize it was possible to do that.”

        she hasn’t moved all night. can’t peel herself from cosima’s side for a second, even if she wanted to. not when the clone looks so small and prone laying in that bed, eyes closed and face pale in the aftermath of her last attack. even now, hours later, delphine can’t shake the image of her convulsing on the ground, blood pouring out of her mouth, bright eyes glazed over and unseeing. only at the sound of another voice does she finally tear her gaze from cosima’s form, hazel eyes landing harshly on the monitor standing across from her. “if that’s how long it takes for her to wake, then yes. of course i will.”
