Fic: Studying the Ceiling
Alec’s almost made it out the door when Rey stops him with a hand on his arm.
“About your interest in my ceilings...” he says, pitching his voice low. His hand lingers a little too long on Alec’s arm and suddenly Alec wants to be here even less than he did when he was listening to Rey bloviate about his paintings and pots.
“Tempting as it would be to offer you a chance to study them in much more lingering detail, I’m really not in the habit of picking up Magnus Bane’s cast-offs. I’m sure you understand that it’s best if we keep things professional. For now.”
Rey pats his arm, smiles his smarmy smile, and closes the door on Alec before Alec can protest that that absolutely was not what he meant when he admired Lorenzo’s ceilings.
He stands before the closed door overcome with mortification.
Lorenzo Rey thought he’d been coming on to him.
He tries to force his lungs to expand while pushing out horrible images of what a lingering study of Rey’s ceilings would entail.
Then he tries to quell the mental image of sitting across the table at the Downworld Cabinet from Rey, with Rey imagining Alec was offering him the opportunity to get Alec on his back.
He feels a little sick. Magnus’s are the only ceilings he wants to study in that way, thankyouverymuch.
Also, Magnus Bane’s cast-offs?
Alec wrangles his mind back to the task at hand before too much indignation sets in.
“I’m never being the distraction again,” he hisses, and stalks off to find Magnus.
