Sherrinford is not really the name of some high security prison. That was just a figment of John’s frantic coma dream. And Eurus is not actually Sherlock’s sister. That’s just something random she said to John before shooting him. Sherlock and John were never actually estranged. That was just their act to cover up what really happened to Mary – or Rosamund Moran, as her real name has turned out to be. Sherlock does have a secret sibling, though, and his name is Sherrinford.

After finally eliminating Moran – though in a rather dramatically different way than they had envisioned – and exposing the truth about Eurus, John encourages Sherlock to delve into his past and to find out whether the reasons to keep Sherrinford away from Sherlock were the right ones, and to discover what really happened in 1981. Along the way, Sherlock and John gradually, finally, stop keeping each other at a distance, and eventually become a proper family of their own.

 @shirleycarlton fearlessly dove headlong into that maelstrom, armed with metas and her own excellent craft, and metamorphosed the season into a logical, thrilling, tender johnlock masterpiece.

It's like watching s4, except it's wonderful and I'm not yelling.

I can picture the writing room - there must be walls covered with post-its and sheets of the script, string spider-webbing it all into a VERY satisfying and cohesive plot.

s4 fix-it headcanons pt. 4

- Cosima leaves little post-it notes for Delphine when she has to go out.  just little reminders or labels with hearts on them.  Delphine hoards them.  she keeps them in the side of her drawer in the dresser.  she doesn’t know why she kept the first one, but she keeps the rest bc she didn’t have anything of Cosima while they were broken up and she remembers how sad that made her and hangs onto these little love notes just in case.

- they move out of the basement pretty quickly.  there’s no privacy and Delphine doesn’t like the fact that anyone in clone club can just come down and walk in on them.  her body is for one clone’s eyes only.  and Shay wants to move in with Cosima as well and there’s no way to divide the space and still have boundaries.

- they pick two bedroom place; one for Shay and one for Delphine.  there’s doors in this place.  they get sound proofing bc while Shay and Delphine are close, they’re not that close yet.  there’s two bathrooms and Cosima has trouble keeping track of her stuff.  the kitchen is really nice and Delphine starts to cook a lot.  it’s kind of therapeutic for her.

- they get a sectional sofa bc, while kind of tacky, it’s the best way to efficiently use space and divide the living room from the dining room.  they get a big ol’ ottoman that turns the corner into basically a twin sized mattress if you push it all the way in.  they constantly fight over who gets to sit in the corner bc they get the huge foot rest and all the snuggles.

-  Delphine hangs all her pictures on the walls  of her room.  for her birthday, Cosima went to the dollar store and bought her a crate of photo frames.  as they’re putting pictures in frames, Cosima finds the post its.  for christmas, Delphine gets a little three-ring binder with the notes scrap booked onto card stock.  it becomes kind of a tradition for Delphine to get a little binder for Christmas every year.

- Shay’s room is basically her apartment but smaller.  it’s so warm and light in there that Cosima wonders how she does it with only a 3x6 window.  (the secret is strategically placed mirrors.)  

- they adopt a dog.  it ends up being Delphine’s dog.  they get it from the shelter and Delphine is the one who spends the most time training it.  like, it likes Shay and Cosima just fine, but they’re hard pressed to get it to spend the night not in her room.  they end up having to move its bed into her room to get it to even consider sleeping there.  and when Cosima is with Shay for the night, it sleeps in Delphine’s bed, curled protectively at her feet.

This fan fic explores the theory that the show is now the blog (a lie, a half-truth). Basically, the season 4 events as seen on screen, were told by an unreliable narrator.

There are four chapters in this fic, starting with the unveiling of the ‘real events’ during His Last Vow, and ending with The Final Problem. This is a finished fic. _____________ I highly suggest this EXCELLENT s4 fixitfic from @fellshish​ John’s Alibi is very cleverly re-woven, angsty-tender, and literally had me on the edge of my seat as I read. Excellent characterization, spot-on banter, and a truly heroic Mystrade. Full of nods and easter eggs, though I’m sure I swept by many as I sped ahead, totally caught up in this excellent story!  (Then go read everything else by fellshish!)

s4 fix-it headcanons pt. 3

- Shay eventually has to go back to work, being a regular citizen and all.  they have to make a schedule of which nights are shaysima date nights because otherwise Cosima just gets sucked into the science and forgets what day it is or lose track of time and not see Shay for a whole week.

- Delphine compares herself to Shay a lot.  she feels really inadequate next to her and doesn’t understand why Cosima would want to open her relationship with Shay (who she sees as a strong woman who is self-sufficient and has done nothing wrong) to include her (who she thinks a coward who is completely dependent and has too many sins to count).  she feels like it’s a pity date and will end as soon as Cosima realizes that she only wants Delphine because she feels bad that she got kidnapped.  she’s had these doubts since the beginning and only initially agreed to be in the relationship because she just wanted to be held.

- she doesn’t tell Cosima this because she’s not stupid.  she wants to be with Cosima for as long as possible and doesn’t want to tip her off about the her feelings about Delphine.  she lets it slip to Shay one night because Shay is such a good listener and Delphine doesn’t really have anybody else to talk with.  Shay immediately goes into Overprotective Mode™.  she makes sure that Delphine knows she’s wanted.  that even if Cosima did leave Delphine for no reason she would still have Shay.  because in her eyes, that would be an irredeemable action.

- Cosima doesn’t know what all happens when Shay and Delphine hang out, but she is thrilled that they’re getting along so well.  it’s one less thing that she was worried she’d have to worry about.

- while Shay and Cosima were looking for Delphine, Shay tried to be the voice of reason.  she hated it, but she would always say things like ‘this may not work out’ or ‘this may lead nowhere’.  she wasn’t trying to be mean or anything, she just didn’t want Cosima to get her hopes up to high because if they found out she was dead it would have destroyed her.  Shay wasn’t going to lose both Delphine and Cosima in one go.

- Shay has a crush on Delphine because she has vicarious feelings from Cosima.  when she finally gets to actually hang out with her it just grows infinitely.  Delphine starts to fall for Shay because, well who wouldn’t? but is too shy to say anything.  she mentions it to Cosima (more Cosima asks her some leading questions) and Cosima plays matchmaker, reassuring the both of them that they want each other.

s4 fix-it headcanons pt. 2

- being alone on the island for months left Delphine a little touch starved.  she’s shy about it, not asking for much from Cosima who is sometimes a little oblivious.  it’s not that she doesn’t know that Delphine would lie and say she’s fine, it’s just easier to believe it when she’s running around like there’s a fire to be put out.  since Shay is just a touchy person, Delphine slowly goes to her for touches.  At some point it gets to where they won’t start talking until Delphine is curled up on Shay’s chest.

- Cosima tries really hard.  but she’s never been in a polya relationship, much less the center of one.  she constantly worries that she’s not doing it right and when Delphine gets upset about the arrangement she blames herself.  the fact that she’s so uptight about it is probably the reason for some of the problems. she’s not willing to try things and see if they work.  she only wants to do something if she knows for a fact that it will work.

(Delphine doesn’t get upset about the arrangement, per se, it’s more that she didn’t get a say.  it was pretty much ‘we’re willing to do this, are you in or out?’ it’s also the fact that she was in a living nightmare and they were together without her and it’s a general ‘I hate the world, nothing is fair’ kind of upset.)

- Delphine owns very little.  the only things that are hers are a few boxes of things from her apartment that Shay and Cosima had stolen when they’d found out she was missing not just running away.  she’s grateful they’d gotten her boxes of pictures and most of her comfy clothes and her baby blanket, but she hates having to rely on Cosima financially (for housing, food, clothes, etc.).

- after Cosima negotiated that Delphine would get three full outfits from a nice store and the rest from somewhere where you can buy things in packs of five Shay starts to get Delphine little gifts.  nothing too fancy.  just like a nice pair of headphones or a used tablet full of books Shay’s already read.  the password to her Netflix account.  she knows that Delphine has a lot of downtime between only really talking to Cosima and not sleeping very well but won’t ask for anything.

- between being alone and terrified for the better part of a year, Delphine sleeps in a tiny ball wrapped in several blankets.  Cosima wasn’t sure if cuddling the ball was allowed so she just kind of laid near her.  when she started waking up with Delphine’s face pressed into her rib cage and her knees digging into her hip she had a light bulb moment.  it’s hard to spoon a compact little ball but she adjusts.  and Delphine slowly starts to loosen up and be conducive to cuddling.

s4 fix-it headcanons pt. 1

- when Delphine and Cosima get off the island Delphine finds it hard to be a person again.  she has no life to go back to since pretty much everything she’d worked for has been destroyed.  she throws herself into the science because she feels like it’s literally the only thing she can still do.

- while Delphine was missing, Shay took care of Cosima.  She never felt like she was sharing Cosima even though most of the time they spent together was searching for Delphine.  when Delphine gets back she gets a little jealous and feels a little neglected.  she quickly gets over it when she sees how much Delphine needs Cosima’s time and attention.

- since they were both pretty physically messed up when they get back, Shay has to take care of them both for a while.  she learns that Delphine has some pretty fucked up nightmares and wakes up screaming a few times a night.  she gets her water and tries to talk about them, but Delphine is so closed off that she just turns the conversations around so that Shay talks about herself.  one night, on the fourth time she’s woken up, Delphine breaks and says through gut-wrenching sobs that she’s terrified of going back there.  it is right there right then that Shay decides that she would lay down her life for this woman.

- while she loves talking to Cosima, there’s just some things that she doesn’t understand.  Delphine gets frustrated when Cosima doesn’t get why she’s so angry or why Delphine herself doesn’t know why she’s angry.  Cosima asks for reasons and looks for solutions and Delphine just doesn’t know, Cosima!  She doesn’t know why and she doesn’t know what would make it better.  asking about it doesn’t make her feel better, it just makes her feel guilty.

- Shay steps in a lot to try and diffuse the tension.  turns out, she understands a lot.  she’s seen a lot of PTSD in her lifetime.  she sees that Delphine was a fighting a war without the training, backup, or willingness that most soldiers have.  she understands the helplessness that Delphine feels at the fact that it looks like everything she had done was for nothing and that the clone bs was still going on.

- so Shay takes Delphine to the gym with her.  she shows Delphine what she did when she got back from her deployment.  she teaches her MMA, krav maga, and boxing.  she shows her how to release some of her anger so that the feelings underneath can be dealt with.  it makes her feel a little less helpless.

The Well

I have lots of thoughts about s4, but honestly, I might accept all the fuckiness if they’d just have shown the well rescue scene.

But they didn’t. So I wrote it. If you've read my huge fixit fic, Sacre Couer, this will not be new content (sorry, more coming soon!).

However, I've garnered from some readers that my intro Well Rescue scene may be satisfying all on its own for those who aren't in the mood for a big fic or new backstory.

The Well recycles Sacre Coeur content into a (much) shorter, tighter lead-up to the explosion of their feelings for one another. Enjoy! _______________________

John startles awake with a gasp.

It's dark. He's on his side in a pool of cold water, hands flying out to push himself up, sliding across algae-slick stone. An instinctive revulsion surges him upward only to stumble and pitch forward into the shallow pool again.

Something is tugging at his leg, holding him back, and for a brief moment every horror movie fear skitters through his mind.

Spluttering, he twists around, fingers groping along his leg beneath the dark water to find a tight metal cuff around his ankle, sealed with a heavy padlock, connected to a chain. Anger furrows his forehead as his fingers trace the rusty links until they end in a steel plate bolted to the floor. Questions fly across his eyes.

Standing more carefully this time, he rubs his hands onto his sodden jacket, eyes adjusting to the gloom. He takes in the rough fieldstone walls that curve around him, mossy and slick with moisture, eyes tracing the room’s small circumference and following the walls up, up.

“Christ,” he whispers to himself, craning his head to peer into the darkness. “It’s a damn well.” As he takes a step toward the wall, the water sloshes around his calves. It's gotten deeper since he woke.

“Sherlock? Sherlock!” _________________________
