Oh my GODDDDD dbsbsbsbsb!!
I thought the episode was super cool and it was very nice to see Colin Ritman again hehe..
Anyways but I wonder what caused Colin to have the initial breakdown because I think it's mentioned he has one before and after the Thronglets.
I think (?) Bandersnatch originally takes place in like the 80s,,so I do wonder..of course in this timeline, this is one where either 1: Stefan never goes to trip drugs with Colin or 2: Stefan picks himself to jump instead of Colin.
Perhaps his orginal breakdown was caused by the fact that he feels responsible for Stefan's death perhaps? Idk Colin is a hard character to read.
But also!! I think it's very...strange, in a way that he *does* take medication. Nothing wrong with that of course, but he's also the one while him and Stefan are tripping that says the government puts drugs in your food & pays people to be your family and stuff so you think he would also believe that medication is used to control people. Maybe he's lost this part of himself? Or if this is a timeline where Stefan dies, maybe he does it for him? Or if this isn't, maybe he saw Stefan's worsening mental health and realized that medication could help him as well. Especially if this happens when Colin goes over to Stefan's after he kills his dad.
Or maybe, he's just addicted to pills now instead of cigarettes since we don't see him smoke.
Maybe his 2nd breakdown/going off the grid was caused because when he was tripping on acid, he was understanding the Thronglets and he was interrupting their message less so as their actual message (if there were ever a real message..) and more so just reiterations of his subconcious thoughts about his guilt for Stefan's death or the fact he didn't do enough to help him. Again, Colin is a hard character to read for me personally so I don't know if that's in character for him but..still.
Maybe he originally created the Thronglets for his daughter originally or something since it does look like a very cutesy game and idk I like the idea of that. Speaking of I'm suprised we don't hear any mention of Kitty or Pearl. I know he had very limited screentime but still.
Idk..I know this was a lot of word vomit but this is another look into the world of Colin Ritman we've had in like 6 years and a few months so I guess I have a lot more to say than I figured lol.
freudian implications, m.d
BUCK YOURE JEALOUS BECAUSE YOU LOVE EDDIE HAHAHAH UR FUCKING GAY DUDE JUST KISS
So, About Bob
I've had this rolling in my head for a while, so I decided to post it.
Everyone knows that Bob the Tester of Heroes is a little bit more than just kind of a dick. But that's because he HAS to be.
A hero trying to prove them self against a hero is just being an ass, so you need a villain to test a hero. But to have it be a good test you need a specific kind of villain. If there's any immediate, unavoidable danger or true physical threat, it becomes perfectly natural and acceptable, even expected, for a hero to respond with mere violence. Bob's asshole persona cast him as the villain to the Paladins, but his method of action made him a villain to try and circumvent and escape rather than directly fight.
However, skills and power aren't what Bob wants to test. He wants to test a hero's worth. So to do that he sets up a situation with a serious dire threat and/or consequences with a built in escape. By trapping his testees, he makes himself into a serious situation, but not in a way that justifies violence and he gives himself time to test for admirable qualities.
The drawings test interpersonal communication (which they do pretty well with). Calling on Lance's insecurities tests the team's ability to support one another and serves to put pressure on Lance for his part of the test (I think the team could have done better with supporting and defending Lance). The name game tests how much the heroes care about everyone or the heroes' humility in the sense of 'do they care about the unimportant people too?'. The word game would test quick thinking skills and ability to work under pressure, since all Lance had to do was string 2 syllables into a pattern that may well have been completely random. Mini golf tests problem solving, creativity, and with Pidge in the mix, determination. And finally, 'who gets to leave?' Tests the heroes' bonds with one another, 'is anyone selfish? is anyone more well-liked or disliked than anyone else on the team? is anyone more self sacrificing than everyone else/do they all give equally for everyone else?'.
These tests were also meant to be at least vaguely familiar, and absolutely difficult. I'm pretty sure an all powerful being can look into the Paladins' heads and pull out mini golf as a good puzzle idea that would be familiar enough to be straightforward for solving. But the way the faces would slow would absolutely prime someone to remember the slowed face and throw them off for the sudden blipped in face. Then the word game could have been easily rigged to put pressure on the entire team, since Lance's life would have been on the line in the acid bath.
Ultimately, I think Bob has actually come up with a pretty solid proving method, even if the heroes he tests hate him for it. After all, most people remember a specific teacher as a pain in the ass, but they sure as hell learned the material didn't they?
I have a new amazing comeback for all the fuck bois I meet thanks to the new GoT episode
That’s right! I’m going to clapback with “Didn’t they teach you that at fancy lad school?” Every time my authority/autonomy is disrespected!
