No it's actually setting in now that we are going to go the whole summer with Eddie canonically apart from Chris. He's gonna go home to an empty house and he's gonna burn food with no one there to tease him and his calendar is gonna be fucking empty and when children are injured on calls he's gonna wake up in the night and go to Chris' room and he's not there and he's gonna think this was inevitable and that he tried for nothing. KILL ME NOW.
Another Jon/Sansa v Jaime/Cersei contrast, of course!
[maybe s8 spoilers so putting my thoughts below the cut]
There are pretty well known rumors at this point of a Sansa kidnapping plot. It was pretty heavily foreshadowed over the past few seasons which makes me hesitate to even think of it as a spoiler. So this scroll is meant to obviously be something very personal to Sansa’s story. The kidnapping plot provides a pretty tidy way to bring the “Jon/Sansa is the positive version of Jaime/Cersei” to a conclusion.
So back to the scroll. What do I think it’ll say? I think it’ll say something that places Jon as the fierce protector to Sansa that Jaime used to be to Cersei and it’s meant to show Cersei that Sansa is the one to cast her down and take everything she holds dear. (I also happen to think Jaime is used as a Trojan Horse of sorts to leverage a meeting with Cersei.
And the wording of the scroll? I think it’ll be something pretty intimate, if Sophie Turner felt the need to keep it. And my guess is something like this:
“Come at once, she said. Help me. Save me. I need you now as I have never needed you before. I love you. I love you. I love you. Come at once.” ~ AFFC, Jaime VII
I also think this is the most likely because Jaime’s response provides the perfect opportunity to contrast Jon’s response.
Vyman was hovering by the door, waiting, and Jaime sensed that Peck was watching, too. “Does my lord wish to answer?” the maester asked, after a long silence.
A snowflake landed on the letter. As it melted, the ink began to blur. Jaime rolled the parchment up again, as tight as one hand would allow, and handed it back to Peck. “No,” he said. “Put this in the fire.”
Interesting imagery with the snow references. Also remember how much s7 emphasized scrolls. S7 even harkened back to Sansa writing from King’s Landing in S1. Basically - I’ve convinced myself that Sansa writes a proclamation of love to Jon and Jon answers the call, with Jaime in tow, to flip the script on Cersei - AND - could lead to a 2.0 Throne Room showdown between Jon and Cersei. “When you play the Game of Thrones you win or you die” and I think the Starks will win.
Just WAITING for a Sansa/Dany chat where she is being super complimentary to dany then says “but” and gives Jon the slyest side eye like yeah boi you know everything I’m saying is bull shit
Jaime rides into Winterfell alone. His plain armor doesn’t garner him any fanfare. At the Great Hall, he sees Bran at the head table. Guilt flash across his face. Later, he stares up at the Broken Tower and averts his eyes, ashamed.
***
Sansa can’t find Jon after Bran has told him about R+L=J. She sees a tiny light flickering at the top of the Broken Tower. That’s where she finds Jon brooding.
Jon: I’m starting to think I was better off dead.
Sansa: You don’t mean that.
Jon: No? Our bannermen will likely withdraw their forces, then behead me if they find out. And if Daenerys does, she’ll have those beasts of hers burn me to a crisp.
Sansa: I won’t let them touch you. I’ll protect you, I promise.
Jon: No one can protect me.
Sansa: No, Jon. I can.
Jon: Sansa, diplomacy won’t work this time.
Sansa: It won’t. But marriage might.
Jon freezes. Realization dawns on him.
Jon: I can’t do that to you.
Sansa: Then do it for me. Winterfell isn’t home without you and I won’t let anyone snatch that away from me. The bannermen won’t touch you if you have the Stark name. And it might just be enough to convince Daenerys you don’t want the Iron Throne. Please, Jon. Let me give you my name.
Their noses are almost touching. Jon, overcome with emotion, nods. They touch foreheads.
CUT TO:
The doorway where there’s someone watching them. It’s Jaime who had climbed the tower to confront his crime.
Jon will be Sansa's suitor and he's going to be on his knees once he asks for her hand in marriage. A Targaryen is going to kneel to a Stark this time around. There will be no buts. Heh.
