Have some random thoughts about the beginning of S8 I typed up last night

Dogget is such a funny bitch, comming in there insinuating Scully never really knew Mulder AND there are other women in the beauro he trusts more than her? Girl should have killed him on the spot.

Okay so that headstone better get relevant again or else why did they bring it all the way to dc? Just for Scully to see it? Photographs exist?

Also also, you can not pull up something like this and then don't elaborate? Who ordered that inscription? was it Mulder himself? What about the grave itself? Did you check the grave?

Also also also, his parents who famously did not get along andhave been separated for decades are still burried together? Is that normal? I feel like that's not normal. (plus scully specifically sayed 'his mother is nurried there' ??)

(Yeah, this better get very important later on or else give poor Teena her headstone back)

I actually like the Dogget/Scully dynamic (or maybe I just like the complete absence of any kind of romantic/sexual tention)

My brain says Chris is allergic to bees & gets stung in Texas & has complications or something and Eddie & Buck go down, bc as far as we know, nobody else is allergic to bees, but I really don’t think they would tease that as like, The Thing about s8 unless it further incorporates the rest of the plot lines, & idk how it would do that.

Maybe Gerrard is allergic & after giving the 118 grief for a few months, he dies. Idfk, I CANT FIGURE OUT THESE GODDAMN BEES.

Does anybody remember what they released like this last season?? Wasn’t it the cruise ship underwater & a hang in a window??

with the trailer finally out and the promotional material with it, I really see how in your face HBO is making D/Jon.

at this point while I love Jon/Sansa, Sansa’s survival matters waayyy more to me (I’ll be happy as long as she’s alive gdi!!)

at the same time i can’t help but notice how with all the Jon/D material that’s being released, Jon legit never has any expression besides worried/brooding when D is with him considering how tenderly she looks at him...which would disconcert me if I were a shipper

They did Lance, Lotor and Allura so dirty. I'm still so bitter by that, you don't even know

You know I’m fine with Lotor since he was already dead and all lol but farmer Lance...that was pretty lame. He made a huge deal about being a pilot and his sharpshooting and then suddenly he wanted a simple life??? What?? Allura’s sacrifice was so sudden and so quick that I was like wait what I thought they meant she could die. Like it was not built up well lol. 

I do want to remind everyone that the show was made in less than three years, and most of that was probably decided very quickly so they could have the storyboards and animation finished in time.

They are amazing storytellers when they have the right time and space so I think if they didn’t have execs telling them to get 8 seasons out in under 3 years, we could have had a lot more than we did. Which was great! A lot of it was so good! I loved all the ladies, and I loved the extra bits of interaction we got from everyone! 

It’s just unfortunate that the ending felt so rushed and...hm.

Vld s8 Rant

Just need to get a few things off my chest since Voltron has been a decent-sized chunk of my life recently.

I hopped on board the Voltron Legendary Defender train right before season 2 aired, and I loved it since the beginning. Everything was new and bright and fun, and it was so entertaining watching these rag tag bunch of idiots interact with each other. I kept up pretty religiously, and even watched seasons 1 - 3 multiple times. But my passion for the show died somewhere around s5. It felt exhausting to get through episodes, and I was constantly checking how many I had left to finish the season. The newer seasons felt driven purely because the plot demanded it with the exception of one fun, silly episode per season. That one silly episode brought life back into my love for the show. Its a conflicting feeling because a show about war SHOULD show the nitty gritty plot demanded battles, but god, I was exhausted with them. But I stayed with it because I had so much time invested in it, and it felt like a disservice to not see it through. But I trudged, and the last 2 seasons were really a struggle, and I’d delve more into why the ending was such a disappointment to me.

Like many others, my favorite character was Lance. I say “WAS” instead of “IS” because that character is not the same person as in the beginning. I felt personally connected to Lance like many others did. He was energetic, loud, and silly, which he used to cover up how insecure he was. He used to be so expressive! But by the last 2 seasons, he was tired, quiet, and not outspoken at all. It’s like, as soon as Allura and Lotor became a thing, his personality did a 180. And I suddenly didn’t relate to him, and he didn’t do anything meaningful unless Allura was involved in some way. There was one comment in this season where the baddies refer to Lance as the “loud paladin”, and I was genuinely confused. Was there really no other descriptor for him? The descriptor they used wasn’t even true anymore! Like damn, boy! I’m sorry you got treated this way, but based on the series of events, Hunk is my new favorite! Lance’s lack of characterization was a big negative for me.

Other short character notes: Keith had no personality this season, and I felt that way about Shiro too. “The leader” isn’t a personality trait. The only smidgeon of Keith I saw was when both he and Hunk were on the Clear Day ride. Hunk and Pidge were great. No notes about Allura because her character felt so inconsistent to me. I used to like her a lot, but now I’m just meh.

Also, Keith and Lance’s relationship, are they just best friends now? Like why? What interactions did they have which showed that they no longer viewed each other as rivals after Keith came back from the void? Just because they aren’t as hot headed anymore doesn’t mean they are automatic bffs. Keith and Hunk had a way more meaningful friendship imho.

As for ships, I started as a main Klance shipper, but the more I watched, the more I became a Shance shipper, and I firmly hold them as my Voltron OTP. But to be honest, in canon, I never wanted any ships to be realized. This is a show about teenagers struggling and growing through an intergalactic war. I think it would have been way more meaningful to bond with each other through friendship and familial ties instead.

To be honest, once Lance and Allura got together in episode 1, I anticipated that one of them was going to die by the end of the season. Out of the two, Allura was the more likely to die, so I wasn’t too surprised by her sacrifice. Allurance was one of my lower tier ships, but it felt too rushed and forced these last two seasons. Like it really came out of nowhere and didn’t feel organic at all. So ultimately, I was disappointed by the ending that s8 provided for those two.

As for Shiro and Curtis, I kinda knew that was end game from the Clear Day episode where Curtis shows up to cheer on Shiros arm wrestling match. After killing off Adam, I felt the writers were trying to cover up the backlash they received by shoving Shiro with another POC without giving them any development. But whatever, they cute together. And Shiro can finally rest, like he deserves. Also, Shiro with glasses makes my heart go doki-doki.

Okay, that’s it, I’m done. I have more things to say, but I gotta run to catch a train, but the main thoughts are out there. Feel free if you’d like to message for thoughtful discussion about this 8 season journey, but please keep ship wars out of it :3

S8 thoughts and spoiler tags.

First things first: I will be tagging spoilers as s8 spoilers.

Secondly, I wanted to get my thoughts/predictions on s8 Lotor out there before we know anything about s8.

I feel like there are a couple ways this could go:

1) if Lotor is still in the rift then Voltron will have to go and get him. Haggar/Honerva will have done something and, by virtue of knowing how she works best, Voltron will need to get him out.

2)If he is already out of the rift then he and Sincline got out on their own, most likely before the castle explosion. Where has he been the last three years? Well, that would depend on what state he is in.

2a) he could be completely normal (as I believe the EPs said in an interview once that because of his per birth exposure to high levels of quintessence, it wouldn't corrupt/possess him like it did his parents). If he is normal, I expect him to be salty as fuck. Lol. In this case, I would imagine Haggar has him as a less than willing assistant. She is clearly the one behind the Altean mech; it's design is markedly similar to Sincline. Which could mean she was designing the Altean mechs while studying Sincline, meaning she has it, and thus, Lotor as well.

2b) he could be RiftMad!Lotor. So still that raving (albeit sexy) man, and could be roaming the universe, causing mayhem.

2c) The Sincline/Lotor robeast-meld. Lotor could have come out of the rift merged with Sincline as a robeast type being. Think about this. How did Haggar make robeasts? By blasting the individual with magic/quintessence while they were connected to the beast in question. What did Allura/the Paladins do to Lotor in the rift? Overload him with quintessence while he was already inside Sincline. So if he is a robeast now, it is their fault.

If this is rambling, I'm sorry its 530 am, and I have to go to work. I will clean this up later but I just wanted to get this out there.

My thoughts

These are my thoughts about how things will go regarding Lotor and Allura in s8, I hope to God that I’m wrong.  That the writers prove me wrong, but I honestly have zero faith in them at this moment.

WARNING: Below the cut is not happy.  If you want a more positive outlook, please go read @leakinghate‘s post HERE.  I hope she is right.

I think Allura and Lance are going to end up a canon couple.  

Many people are going to assume this upsets me because I ship Lotura, but honestly, I started this show as a Lotor-stan, first and foremost.  And I love Lotura.  But ultimately I want justice for Lotor, whether that means Lotura or not. Obviously I would prefer Lotura, but it is not required for me to be moderately okay with this show.

What I’m not okay with is the way that Allura has been systematically stripped of almost everything that makes her special.

She’s lost her planet, her people (twice now), someone she loved (or someone she was at least in love at the idea of being with), her castle/home, her fucking clothes, and her tiara.

And not only has she lost all of those things, but also one of the very things that made her species and character special – their ability to wield quintessence.  Throughout the show, only Alteans have been shown to have the ability to wield quintessence, and this is why some of us theorized that Haggar’s Druids were Alteans.  But now, suddenly, we have this whole separate race of beings that are apparently able to do so.  That diminishes the importance of Altean Alchemy to practically zero.

And now that she is completely isolated (even Jeremy Shada said that she was basically “trapped” with him), with nothing to call her own, she suddenly starts reciprocating Lance’s feelings?  Now that she’s “healed” after Lotor (I believe this is what the EPs said)?  

If they wanted to have A//urance as the endgame, doing it this way is SUCH a huge disservice to both characters.

Now, as for Lotor.  We know from Rhys (Coran’s VA) that Lotor isn’t dead, so we can safely assume he is going to show back up in s8.  But here is the thing:

Lotor is going to die this time.

I honestly believe that the show is going to go one of two ways when it comes to s8 Lotor; either he is going to be a mustache-twirling villain and die as such OR he is going to be cured of his madness and die “redeeming” himself.

Because honestly – I don’t feel like the writers have written a universe where Lotor could be safe/trusted in.  Even if he “redeems” himself (I put quotes because he didn’t betray anyone damn it) the Paladins will always have this distrust in the back of their minds (just like they did in s5 &s6) that he will just “betray” them again when it is convenient for him. When it is in his best interest to do so; never mind it was NEVER in his best interest to work against the Paladins. They will never trust him.  

So what would be the point of keeping him around?  Why have this character with SO much backstory and so much trauma, but who is oh, so inconveniently morally gray stick around and be alone and untrusted for the rest of his god damn life.  And with the fact that Lotor seems to have stopped aging, can he even die from old age? Wouldn’t it just be so much easier to just have him die saving the team, taking Haggar out with him, and removing all traces and “taint” of the family that started it all?

Like I said, I hope I’m wrong.  I would be tickled beyond belief to be wrong.

But the writers and EPs have no longer given me ANY reason to trust them with a good story for either Allura or Lotor (or Shiro, but that is another matter).

Get your fix-it fics and art ready kids.

We’re going to need it.
