possibly hot take, but if/when they resurrect bobby, i would love it they didn't have athena's reaction be anger (which imo makes sense and obviously angela bassett would eat that storyline). i'd love if she just got to be happy lmao and maybe consider a career change. what i'd love to see is if BUCK is angry when bobby comes back. because bobby MADE him leave. buck took eddie wondering if he (eddie) could have done anything to save bobby, is because buck didn't. he didn't do everything he could to save bobby! bobby asked him not to! he asked buck to be strong, to take care of his team, and to let bobby have time with his wife. and we've seen how much buck is struggling, so imagine the ANGST if bobby comes back and instead of uncomplicated relief to have him back, buck is struggling to forgive him. for leaving, for telling buck to respect his wishes and let him die, for putting the weight of the team on his shoulders (in buck's mind). the angst!! there hasn't been a buck-bobby conflict since the lawsuit really, but they have such a good dynamic and its SOOO good and compelling to watch it come under pressure. also chim could be brought in as a parallel, given his anger with bobby pre-resurrection but i feel like given maddie and his kids it's harder for him to hold his anger once bobby is back (or give me a full buck chim storyline where they bond in a weirdly toxic way over bobby coming back, that would SLAP). ALSO!!! wouldn't it be convenient if there was another recent complicated father-son conflict that the show never fully resolved?? wouldn't it be interesting if there was someone who could relate to buck feeling betrayed by his father's actions?? or a father who could relate to bobby's catholic upbringing and sense of guilt over his son specifically, even though he never meant to hurt him?? wouldn't that be crazy

like damn yeah we saw specifically chris’s 14th birthday on screen while he’s being kept away from home in the exact custody scenario eddie has always feared? and it’s so crazy that hen and karen addressed corruption in family court/custody proceedings for not acting in the child’s best interests while getting mara back? and eddie is worried and guilty all season about not being there for his family? while emergencies featuring missing persons/empty graves and resurrections are all over the place while eddie and bobby are constantly being mirrored narratively amidst leaving and also with religious imagery? eddie goes offscreen/missing from the narrative for multiple episodes? and we never got to see chris stand up for himself re: preferring LA over el paso? and buck is unsure of where he belongs and what his family looks like now? hmmm okay

i’ve said it before and i’ll say it again: when they talk about a will they won’t they, i am treating it like a threat

the potential of athenaeddie conflict regarding visiting a dead spouse's grave. eddie tail between his legs going to shannons grave and finally talking it out to her who's not her bc it's a slab of granite but that's all she is anymore if that's all he let's her be. seeking peace in her presence and ending his episode arc sharing stories about shannon with abuela and pepa and chris. athena revved up because she would go see bobbys grave actually she'd really like to do that but hes so far away and hes with his family now and she cant keep taking time off work. shes slowly moving into a new house and setting bobbys things to the side and balking at this emptiness she can't fill because she cant place her finger on it but she needs to fill it so so bad. spirals. she finds something of his and says no, i cant throw this out. he needs this. ill just take this to him. yeah. boards a flight and goes straight to the cemetary...where in the morning sky theres a figure...someone standing at the grave...

Hear me out..

Maybe Eddie doesn't know that Buck is looking to move. And maybe Buck doesn't know that Eddie isn't looking to kick him out anytime soon. Because they don't communicate.

Eddie had no idea that Buck requested a transfer. His response was shock and dismay. Bobby's death affected the 118 so significantly, and we see that. We see non-communication, we see anger and despair, we see pain.

It makes sense that Eddie and Buck are still tiptoeing around each other. Both are still hurting, still trying to figure out how to move forward. It makes sense that Buck would decide on his own to move out. He wouldn't tell anyone, he would just move.

I could see S9 picking up on this idea. Eddie finding out about the move and questioning Buck. Buck being all defensive and admitting he didn't want to burden Eddie.

This has potential....

This HAS to be a set up to finally bring up the will between them

Because Eddie will lose his mind that Buck STILL doesn't understand that he ALREADY has them

That he's ALREADY a part of the Diaz family and that he doesn't have to wait for Eddie to die to be Christopher's father because he already is

Knowing Buck won't be coping and Eddie being the one to clock it and that there will be issues with them

The theories about Buck developing an addiction or eating disorder or whatever

They'll have an argument about it and the will is gonna come up and Eddie is gonna be angry that Buck is giving up now, after everything

and Buck is gonna be like

You made it home Eddie. Chris still has his father. That's the most important thing.

The "You're Buck. You never give up." of it all only for Buck to give up on himself

Makes me think if we get trapped dads or at least trapped Eddie and afterwards the 'I don't wanna wait' love confession which will end the season on Buddie cliffhanger
