Luffy prioritized saving Ace
Yeah, Ace's situation was infinitely more dire, but still
He decided that first and foremost his family, his one brother, the person who he grew up with (that wasn't... you know... abus-sorry, Garp) and that's perfectly all well and good but in his mind, that made the most important thing right now in his world Ace. He was the priority. He was what mattered. By choosing to concentrate solely on that situation, he subconsciously made his internal list go from
1. Pirate king/Nakama? Idk which
2. Whichever wasn't first
3. Family (...Ace? Dadan? Idk. Shanks adoptive father figure?)
4. Food
To
1. FAMILY (Ace in particular)
2. Nakama (at this point, they were the main thing that mattered over pirate king)
3. Pirate king
4. Food
So now that Ace became the most important thing, he went all out, desperately trying to save him, and so when things went sour, he was left with
1.
2. ...nakama?
3. pirate king
4. Self worth issues stemming from trying so so so hard to save the important people in your life and failing twice in a row in the worst ways possible
So the emptiness and anguish got multiplied by... a LOT.
Just some depressing stuff to keep in mind that I noticed :)
(The way I put this is to try and convey my point better, like the lowercase meant to be read as devastatingly quiet, like if everything just disappeared and all you could hear were your scared, hushed thoughts, and the tons of spaces to make the point of the void left behind and how it didn't even occur to him at first that there was still anything worth anything)
One Piece 30 Day Challenge:
Day 21: Favorite Luffy Fight
All of Luffy's fights are amazing. So it's really had to choose one. It wasn't really a fight though but when Luffy punches the Celestial Dragon. He so had it coming. I suppose afterwards when Luffy "teamed up" with Law and Kidd to fight off the marines, that was pretty awesome.
