Not Batman's sidekick
Hi, good time to everyone. It seems this post has made some people react negatively and the last thing I want is to cause any inconvenience. I've read the comments and I accept my mistake. I've fixed that little part.
I know that Danny Phantom means a lot to many of us but lets also remember that we are here to have fun. Thank you for your patience.

I’ve read a fanfic where baby Tim Drake (he’s like nine-ten? In the story) confuses Danny with Robin. In the fic's story Bruce is grieving, aggressive and alcoholic. Danny is hiding in Gotham, having some fun while doing some jumps, baby Tim sees him and immediately thinks “Hey, that’s Robin. Why is he not with Batman?” The fearless child confronts Danny and convinces him to help Batman or Tim will do it himself. I don’t remember if I read it in Tumblr or AO3 :-( (If someone knows the name of the fic please put it in the comments)
The thing is, I really like this idea but I would like to change some stuff:
First of all, Danny’s background for this is pretty sad. Jack, Maddie and the G.I.W. over-heated the portal to destroy it, which ended up with it subsequent explosion destroying the whole city and turning every soul in it into the most primal form of ectoplasm.
Danny is the only survivor thanks to his ecto-shield – he suffers from survivor’s guilt –.
Little Dani didn’t make it either. Before the portal thing, the G.I.W. had captured her and hired Jack and Maddie to study her… we all know what that means. Danny found out that they had Dani and tried to rescue her, that’s when Jack and Maddie discover that Danny is Phantom.
Danny runs away to the Infinite Realms and he stays there for a while but doesn’t want to stay in there forever and asks C.W. if there’s a place where can keep being human for a bit longer. C.W. tells Danny about Gotham.
When Danny arrives to Gotham, he is sixteen.
A couple of months before Danny moved to Gotham, a boy named Jason died. When Danny begins his life as a homeless teen in Gotham, Batman is already an alcoholic bully that beats the crap-out of low-level thugs, leaving them with one inch of their life.
During the first month Danny got accustomed to Gotham, learning to move in her shadows but also, he always had his ears up for the stories the other people on the streets would talk or share. The most common gossip topic was Batman. How Batman was different a couple of months ago. How Batman had become more aggressive, less hero and more monster. How there is no longer a Robin by his side. And that’s when it connects to Danny: Robin – whoever they were – died.
Danny sometimes follows Batman. He is the one that picks up the remnants of the living punching bags the furry leaves behind and takes them to Dr. Thompkins – may the ancients bless that woman –.
Almost a year since he moved to Gotham – and some months following the furry around –, one good night our favorite furry was too drunk to properly fight back and the low-level criminals ganged on him. Danny allowed the angry criminals to have a bit of their retaliation but after five minutes he decided to interfere and save Batman’s ass. Danny used his umbrakinesis to move the unconscious man to his hideout in Old Gotham, there Danny applied first aid on the furry and put an I.V. with saline water on his wrist.
Danny and Batman have a heart-to-heart conversation – they scream at each other and Danny allows Batman to hit him, in the end they both calm down and continue talking until sunrise –.
After that night Batman takes some days off, he asked Nightwing to cover for him for about a week.
Bruce has thrown away all of the liqueur in the manor and gave himself time to properly grieve his son – he has also tried to investigate Danny, which btw, he found absolutely nothing –.
When Batman is once again up and about the first thing he does is to look for Danny. He finds him sitting on a bench in a park near the city's graveyard, the boy is eating a burger and some fries.
“Daniel.” Batman says as greeting as he stands a couple feet away from the bench where the strange teen is relaxing.
“Hey, Bats.” Danny greets back as he gives a big bite to his burger, not even looking at the vigilante. “Feeling better?”
“Yes.” Batman answers without moving from his spot. “Thank you, and I am sorry for the way I behaved.”
“You mean the slurs and the punches?” Danny asks without heat, he actually is amused, a small smirk on his pale chapped lips as he finally twists his heat a bit to look at the bat themed vigilante. “It’s ok, man. It’s not like a was any better.” He says a gives his milkshake a big slurp. “I hope you also talked to whoever was covering for you, that dude’s anger and sadness smelled as bad as yours.”
Under the cowl Bruce lifts an eyebrow. He can smell emotions. A type of empath. The older male quickly writes down in his mental characteristics list on Danny. “Yes, we did. We needed it.”
“Let me guess, wherever you live ended up worse than my place?” Danny asks, true amusement in his voice.
“Yes.” Batman acknowledges.
“Yeah, I thought so. Good. You both smell better now.” Danny comments and then gives another bite to his burger.
“What about you? Would you like to continue our talk? No screams nor punches this time.” Batman offers.
“Nah, man. I’m good. The talk we had back then really helped. I feel less red too, still blue, but certainly less red.” Danny comments.
Danny expected Batman to go away after that, he thinks his tone had been dismissive enough, but the furry stay rooted on his place, looking at Danny without blinking – Danny may not be able to see he face under the cowl but he is pretty sure the man is not blinking as he looks at him –.
“What?” Danny questions with nervous voice after a whole ass minute of Batman just standing there in complete silence.
“Do you have somewhere else to stay?” Batman finally asks.
“Ah, hell nah! Been there done that! Stay away you froot-loop!” Danny exclaims as a green blush blooms on his cheeks.
Danny, in panic, uses his invisibility and intangibility to get away from the situation.
Batman stays rooted on his place as he watches with wide open eyes as the teen vanishes from his own spot, forgetting his food. Once Danny is completely gone, Batman says aloud. “Probable meta or alien.” He says to himself as he nods once and then walks away.
After another couple of months Batman is captured by The Court of Owls, Nightwing is off planet and Alfred is desperate, so he contacts Danny.
Danny accepts to help Alfred and rescue Batman.
This time Danny accepts to stay at the Manor, if only to help Alfred to take care of the over-grown, emotionally constipated baby that is Bruce Wayne.
Dick is pretty mean to him at first because he thinks that Bruce is trying to replace Jason, but then he realizes that Danny is also full to the brim with pain and sadness and understands why Bruce decided to take him to the manor. After spending some time with Danny, Dick realizes that he and the teen have a very similar sense of humor and fashion sense.
Danny really likes Richard. He reminds him a lot of Jazz. He even called him Jazz one time.
Danny is not a Robin. When he helps Batman or Nightwing he is called Corvin. And he definitely is neither Batman’s nor Nightwing’s sidekick.
