I was lucky enough to win the “most meritorious catch” trophy at the the annual South Australian Freshwater Anglers Association trophy night for my 55cm Australian Bass. Fishing has provided me with many great memories over the years, but this capture (and release) ranks right up there with my biggest GT, first metre long Murray Cod and giant Bluefin Tuna. I had caught smaller bass previously to this on soft plastics, and on the light gear they go like scalded cats, but this fish was next level! When I first laid eyes on it after 3 scorching runs that’s when I realised this was one of those once in a lifetime angling moments .
