The lights in the studio were blinding.
Joe shifted in his chair as he pulled down his suit jacket, resting his arm on the back of the chair. An easy smile stretched across his face as he met eyes with Jimmy who was grinning a little too widely for Joe's liking.
“So… people noticed you were in Paris recently.” Jimmy started as the audience whooted and yelled in barely contained excitement. As soon as the word Paris left his mouth Joe laughed as if he'd already been caught. He just nodded, rubbing the back of his neck the way he always did when he was nervous.
"Uh...yeah. I was." He said, laughing awkwardly. He looks down at his hands for a second, rubbing his thumb over his knuckle, then glances back up at Jimmy with a crooked smile.
Jimmy begins again, hands gesturing animatedly across the desk. “A-And people also noticed you weren’t alone." Jimmy adds, glancing toward the audience like they already know the answer. “They were very invested in that detail.” He said with a knowing smile. "Ms. Y/N? Can we talk about her? Do you mind?" With a barely contained smile, a dusting of pink settled over Joe's cheeks as he ran a hand over his mouth to hide his grin. "Uh, yeah. She-she's just amazing...Honestly. She works harder than anyone I know. She's my muse, my friend...she's just really special."
As he talks, his hands move without him noticing. Small gestures, palms open, like he’s trying to explain something that feels too big to fit into words.
"And you were with her when she won her Oscar." Jimmy continued, every word flowing naturally.
Joe's eyes lit up, recounting the moment as if it were last night. His eyebrows lifted in genuine admiration and his voice lowered in genuine admiration as he spoke softly. "I did cry." His smile turns sheepish then. He lets out another laugh, rubbing the back of his neck, eyes darting toward the audience who let out a series of 'awws' before returning to Jimmy. “Just a little,” he says, but his eyes give him away.
He sits still for the first time, shoulders settling, expression calm and honest. "I just feel like I've known her my whole life. Everything's easy with her."
