Mission: The Fur and the Slaughter PT 2
The first day went pretty smoothly; Vye had slain and Sai had skinned and in no time they had more than enough furs. Though it was true that they were able to head back as soon as they had what the General had ordered, they decided to stay out for awhile longer and collect more resources so that there wouldn't be a shortage any-time soon. But for now, they took the rest of the night off to rest and recuperate. They talked, joked, and laughed before finally succumbing to the tiredness that overwhelmed them and fell asleep out in the field under all the stars.
-----------------------------
The sun rose and Sai found herself awoken by doggy breath and slobber. She jolted upwards and was face to face with none-other than a wolf pup. A big one, to be exact. Seeing as how it wasn't tearing her to shreds, she was confident enough that she could speak over the comm.
"Uhh...Not that I don't adore wolves but why is one here?" She patted the pup on the head and accepted the kisses he gave her as she waited for a response which came at no time at all:
"That's Asokka, he's my wolf pup that I send to be your guardian for now since Vye was injured and had to be brought back." It was Asonna that bellowed over the comm and to be honest; Sai wasn't surprised.
Sai scowled, "Injured? How?!"
This time the voice that cracked over the comm was Vyeron's; "I went hunting while you were sleeping so that you could skin them when you were awake and I was jumped."
Sai didn't know what annoyed her more; the fact that he went hunting without her or because he got jumped. Nonetheless, there was nothing she could do.
"Also, just so you know; Asokka loves attention." Asonna added.
Asokka's tail was wagging happily and he licked her hand as she tried to pet him.
"Alright, you ready boy?" She asks the pup before being answered with a bark and some more tail wagging; and with that they were off towards the canyon of Saberon.
Sai peered both ways, ran up, then hid behind a tree as soon as they had reached the caverns that the felines made their home. She crouched down and as soon as the coast was clear, she whispered to Asokka; "Okay boy, here's the deal. I'm going to really need your help here. I don't know much of any other fighting style aside from fire and a couple ice spells but if I used those I would damage the pelts.." She peers back at the Saberon before speaking to the pup once more, "I'm going to try and freeze them in place and I need you to go for their jugular, understood?" She pointed at her own jugular for emphasis.
Asokka merely wagged his tail; his tongue lolling out of his opened maw, and Sai took that as an 'understood'.
"Here we go!" Sai rushed out from behind the tree and starts with a smaller Saberon and muttered a short incantation that encased it from the bottom half of its calves down in solid ice. During this time Asokka followed the cavern walks as if he had already made himself a path at the very beginning. As if right on queue, he leaped down- fangs jutted- and laid waste to the beast's throat. The Saberon went limp almost instantly as the blood formed a fountain from his opened jugular.
"Good boy!" Sai bellowed out as another Saberon presented itself right in front of the pup. Just like before, Sai froze the beast's feet before scurrying to the corpse and beginning the task of skinning. However, unlike the previous Saberon that went down very easily; the pup had a bit of trouble with this one. Even though he went for the throat the same way he had previously; he just could not get a good grip upon it. The Saberon fought Asokka off for the time being until the pup tried a different tactic. Taking a look about his surroundings, Asokka spotted a stalagmite jutting up out of the ground near the Saberon. Sprinting forward, the pup used the side of the rock to push himself onto the cat-beast where he ripped its jugular out from the side; the sound of tearing flesh echoed throughout the cavern and canyon. Once the Saberon fell dead, the pup howled to signal that the deed was done.
Mission: The Fur and the Slaughter PT 1
The ride to Talador was long and treacherous and personally, Saidora cared for it little to none at all. Though the seat of the hog was uncomfortable, she did have to admit that the company was delightful. “How much farther is it?” She asked, her eyes gazing at the unfamiliar territory of southern Gorgrond. Vye seemed to be stuck in his own world as his own eyes scanned their surroundings; searching for any possible threat that could very likely present itself at any moment. “We’re almost there. Not too long and we’ll be crossing into Talador territory.” It was quite impressive that there had been no threat, aside from the occassional wolf or spider through Frostridge. Of course, strewn about the roads and fields were dead bodies throughout parts of Gorgrond so there was little chance of danger. Sai had seemed to of zoned out for a while because she was jolted back to reality by the halting of the vehicle. “Here we are. I hope you didn’t get too bored on that trip.” Vye murmured as he stepped off of the bike. Sai climbed out of the side-car and picked up the crate that she was sharing car space with. “What is this place?” “Vol'jin’s Pride. This is where we will collect the first needed for our mission.” He explained as he wandered over the bridge back towards the wide open space full of threats from every shape and size. “Right right. You do the stabbing, I do the skinning, yeah?” Sai situated the crate so that it was properly tucked under her arm. “Well yeah. If you did the killing, we’d be here forever since you’d make barbeque of all the pelts.” Vye smirked before leading the way to the small canyon (could you even call that a canyon?) where the cat-man-beasts reside. Vye cracked his fingers and reached behind him for his swords that were strapped to his back were. “Let’s get this party started.” Vye rushed on ahead, catching two beasts by surprise and taking them out without even breaking a sweat. The first one took a sword to the jugular while the other one to the sternum. Sai was close enough to rush in after the kills and begin her work on grabbing the furs. She was fairly quick and her work was pristine as was Vye’s as he slew his way through the walls of claws, fangs, and furs. But it wasn’t all smooth sailing….
Sai hadn’t been sleeping well after the encounter with the ghosts while rescuing the General and honestly, it infuriated her. She felt weak because while she endured mental violation and the rising of memories she had tucked away never to be seen again; she didn’t actually endure any physical trauma. She felt like she had just been useless. Just a body in the way. Even now she couldn’t shake being rattled by the night terrors and constant reminders of things she wanted to forget and nothing pissed her off more than that.
She walked along the pathway leading to the Royal Exchange and ignored every passerby, just stuck in her own self-loathing. She couldn’t focus on anything else but her anger and exhaustion and as ironic as it may be; it was exhausting. She had finally had enough. She made her way towards the hospital to see if she could be of some use.
It didn’t surprise her that the hospital wasn’t empty, for it had seemed that Vye had finally risen from his coma and Asonna was there making sure he didn’t get up yet. Saidora walked in quietly and leaned against the wall only to observe for a time, but she was quickly noticed.
“What the fuck happened to you?” Asonna asked as she studied the magi.
Sai’s first instinct was to scowl at her weakness being noticed right off the bat, but she forced a smile. “Just haven’t been sleeping well after the ghost encounter, is all.”
“Seems like nobody’s getting the rest they need.” Asonna peered back at Vye who had grumbled something earlier but in her exhausted state, Sai didn’t catch what it was.
“Would you like a sedative?” The question was directed to Sai and she was more than happy to say yes.
“That would be delightful.” Finally! She’d be able to sleep at least for a few hours. That is all she would need.
“Which arm would you like it in?” Asonna brought out a syringe and a bottle of liquid; obviously the sedative she were speaking of.
Saidora walked up towards the huntress and stuck out her arms, “Either one is fine.”
“Hmm, alright. I just need to know your weight so I can give you the proper dosage.”
Ugh, her weight? The was a gentleman there and she was asked her weight? She spent a split second groaning internally before answering, “I weigh one hundred twenty.”
Asonna began calculating the amount required and finally injected the sweet, sleep-inducing formula. “See you tomorrow, you’ll have pleasant dreams tonight,” she smiled.
Sai grinned tiredly, “I owe you.”
She made her way to the couch behind Vye’s and listened to the two chat a bit longer before dozing off completely; those night terrors were not present that evening.
