i'm suddenly thinking about rockstar!eddie shooting a music video on some naval ship and meeting actual sailor!steve who's all dressed up in his whites 'cause eddie's a big name star and the captain said everyone had to look their best and eddie immediately folding for the pretty guy in uniform

just: eddie wanting a couple of the guys to act in the video 'cause hopefully then they'd actually know what they're doing, and asking the capt to point out his most competent sailor. the capt immediately points out one of his low-ranking ensigns (like, brand new baby officer 'cause that's the kinda shit an officer would pull) and eddie, having been raised by wayne (who i'm hc-ing as a navy vet) knows better and is immediately like "No sir, I said your most competent, not your least. someone point me to THE second class. Where's he? I need an enlisted guy." and a higher-ranking chief that's been following the band around the ship all day bellows out a laugh and says "You're gonna want Harrington, Mr. Munson."

idk idk, it's niche but for some reason my mind went into the cold clammy depths of my time in the navy this morning and i was like 'NOPE! don't wanna dwell here, make it fun! make it about the blorbos so you dont get sad!!' lmao

What are you doing down here?” “Looking for you.” “Oh yeah?” Steve smirks, “What for?” Eddie waves him off, a perfect picture of nonchalance as he leans against a thick roll of hose. “I’ve always been a night owl Stevie, why’re you up and about at the witching hour?” Steve tosses a thumb over his shoulder at the still rumbling machine, “Laundry.” Eddie nods, “3am laundry runs are always a good idea.” Steve chuckles, then gestures to the curve of doorway across from the one he’s sitting in. “Pull up some porthole.” “I’m good standi—” at that moment, the ship makes an unexpected roll and Eddie is staggering back upright against the wall opposite the shoulder-warmed hose. Steve just chuckles, not seeming to have moved even an inch. “Okay, you caught me, “ Eddie says, more woozy than ever against his new wall, “I wanted to find you anyway, maybe interrogate you about what Jeff had planned for you once we start filming.” Steve looks him over fully from head to toe, then stands, his long legs unfolding under him on either side of the door lip and stretching. “Well I think,” he lets his stretch go, twists on one heel, cranking the dial higher on the dryer and spinnging all the way back around to look at Eddie in one motion. “I need to take you to get some nausea medicine.” “Please..?”

Steve gets one of the double doors open, and normal, colorless light spills into the hallway. “Alright you, stop haunting my p-way and get inside.” He says, gesturing into the door.

“I dunno, Edmundo..” Buck drawls, his voice low. He steps just that much closer to Eddie, straightening up and looking down at his friend. “Looks to me like you might like that idea.”

“No problemo, Jefe.” She says, putting Henderson down only to scruff him by the collar of his uniform and drag him back to the door. Eddie hears him say “I can’t live, laugh, love under these conditio—” before the door clicks shut behind them.

ooohhh i love this one!! it's been slowly simmering on the back burner for a while now (the last time i edited it was oct 2023 🧍‍♀️)

summary:

this one is an au where steve and some of the kids are Navy sailors and rockstar!eddie + the rest of corroded coffin strike a deal to film a music video on steve's ship and that's how they meet! i got the worm when i was thinking of the Bad Times i had while on active duty and decided to romanticize it for the blorbos instead so i wouldn't be sad anymore (while sprinkling in some of my irl stories from when i met and dated my now husband on his ship 🥰)
