i love how s!sunshipduos parental trauma and relations are subtly woven into the story.

s!aimseys parents always pressuring them to do amazing things, which he wants to more than anything, but under their “guidance” of what to do he feels trapped.

when xey realize s!guqqie withheld information and therefore removed his ability to choose his own path, he ran. just like he ran from his parents.

s!guqqie lived in war. to inherit the throne she had to kill her youngest sister, which she couldn’t. she has always felt weak and out of control. but s!aimsey made her feel strong. he had chased the shadows she had been trapped in away with his radiant personality.

when s!guqqie realized that if s!aimsey knew how the mysterious frozen ocean worked he may leave them. all her life was full of loss and instability. she just needed control over one situation, one she didn’t fully understand.
