"Saint Dude" by Franz Ferdinand Ah we're in the heart of the Barbican show now, after that stunning Jarvis Cocker cover I last posted. Next up is Franz Ferdinand! Another huge group to be doing this, and they bring their own style to "Saint Dude." We haven't heard this song like this at all, I don't think. This is a usually catchy song, but Franz Ferdinand find their own catchiness, if that makes sense. It's in the band and the rhythm, instead of the vocal melody. artist: Franz Ferdinand website
"Saint Dude" by The Ramshackle Orchestra Pete's been productive this month! Next up from him is this unique "Saint Dude." As he notes, he tried to arrange it to brass, but I like how it has a calm droning feel to it instead of the usual flowery brass arrangement. He also asks if there's any brass bands out there that want to do his arrangement up for real, to get in touch! That would be superb. Any read here? I get the sense that in some ways Pete here is an idea man, anyone want help bring his ideas to life? artist: The Ramshackle Orchestra Soundcloud
"Saint Dude" by Paul Defiglia & Peri DeLorenzo & Mike Phillips We heard from Paul a few months back, when he gave us a pretty lullaby version of "Last Night You Were A Dream." He returns with another slow burn of a cover, this time "Saint Dude," sung as a duet with Peri. They give the song a unique, dreamy arrangement as well, with bass, violin, organ and guitar. artist: Paul Defiglia & Peri DeLorenzo & Mike Phillips Soundcloud
"Saint Dude" by Portland School Of Rock The Portland School Of Rock concert continues, with their version of "Saint Dude." Seems to be a different band entirely from the first two clips I've posted so far, and I still dig hearing their straight-forward but fun versions. Also props to that bassist for the bowtie! artist: Portland School Of Rock website
"Saint Dude" by Corinne and Andy Corinne and Andy bring us a gorgeous folk version of "Saint Dude." Corinne's voice is warm and she sings it beautifully, I'd love to hear her sing a lot more of Song Reader. Andy's sharp guitar behind her provides a simple, clean sound too. Great track! artist: Corinne and Andy Soundcloud
"Saint Dude" by Gerhard Jason Geick
Gerhard notes that he "created a strange hybrid of song, spoken word, and sound collage" on his "Saint Dude" cover. It does feel like an inversion of the song somehow, not focused on the vocal melody like most; instead finding the song in one chord. artist: Gerhard Jason Geick Soundcloud buy his book
"Saint Dude" by Max Miller I think it has been what? Six months since we last heard from Max? Early on, he gave us a few quick recordings of some of the fragments, just so we could hear what they were like. But all along, I knew he was working on finishing off his recording of the whole Song Reader set, and this version of "Saint Dude" is his announcement that he's done and it will be released on July 8 (Beck's birthday)! I've known Max in the Beck fan world for awhile now and I can't wait! Until then, we can play his "Saint Dude" over and over. He does the Beck-trick here of singing the song fairly straight, but letting the music go wild around him. artist: Max Miller Soundcloud website
