what is that?
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2019_Siberia_wildfires but the article is very short and outdated
as per russian article, by the 14 of August, 14,9 million hectares of forest was burnt since the beginning of the year (comparable to some of the european countries’ size), producing 225 million tons of carbon dioxide (fastens global warming). the smoke reached not only us (fires are in eastern siberia and im in western), but even north america, from what I heard.
authorities refused to extinguish fires for a pretty long time, until people on the internet started spreading the information and other countries’ leaders expressed concern
the reason is said to be global warming itself, but is widely believed to be a part of russian authorities’ schemes of illegal export of forest to China (to cover the evidence, supposedly, although I just read a different version on bbc site, but more or less everyone agrees on the main point)
