قهار عاصی
By Qahar Asi
زمین خاره را گندم بکارم
upon the rocky land, I'll sow wheat
تو را روز درو با خود بیارم
at the harvest, I'll bring you with me
به مویت خوشه گندم ببندم
on your hair, I'll place a crown of wheat
به پایت قودهی گندم گذارم
by your feet, I'll place a sheaf of wheat

Salang's Spirits
By Farhad Azad
It was September 2002. I stood on the Salang highway. The early fall hues donned the trees, and towering peaks surrounded us. This was where Ahmad Zahir met his end on June 14, 1979. The exact spot remained elusive, a ghost in the mountain road.
The road was a scar, ravaged by years of conflict, a mirror of the land's wounds. The people I met, their eyes held a quiet sorrow, a weariness born of too many battles, too many lost hearts.
Yet, beneath that reserve, a flicker of warmth stayed, a testament to the continuing spirit of a people who had known too much darkness.
This was my moment captured from Salang, a landscape etched in memory, where the beauty of the peaks mingled with the phantoms of a rugged past.
Ahmad Zahir's song, lyrics by Ada and composed by Nainawaz, 1978.
