maybe sarcastic vexillology brought the nation together once, ok?
it sure wasn’t any kind of usable ports or fishing culture or ANY REASON TO MAKE THE FLAG THREE FISH amirite?
my carneira Just got married.
Okay but I talked some time ago with someone who said that she had imagined Saldaeans as Russians... And just try to tell me that Russian accent wouldn't make Davram Bashere all the more awesome. x)
saldaeans are modeled on central asians, for example google image turkmen people and check out the noses on some of the dudes, or this guy from the pamir mountain area of china: theworldofchinese(.)com(/)article(/)pamir-people/pamir-people4/, or look up nilufar sherzod from tajikistan who was miss united nations
Ohh, thank you, dear anon! (Why are you people anon, anyway? o_O Oh well.)
I wish the image search would give me some reference for slightly younger men, though. Because apparently my visual imagination is lacking and I can’t.. err, youngen them in my head. x) But hey can’t have everything I suppose!
About your "Saldaeans and Aiel" comment, does it say that the Saldaeans were fighting the Aiel IN Saldaea? It's possible that the passage meant that Saldaeans were helping fight the Aiel in Shienar.
This is possible I guess. Seems a bit far-fetched to me considering they have their stretch of the Blightborder to guard, as well. But, possible.
if it does say saldaeans are used to fighting aiel, it's probably a mistake and should have said shienarans, since they skirimish with the aiel in the niamh passes all the time.
Yeah. Well, the passage was talking about Saldaeans, but I’m thinking poor Brandon must have confused Saldaeans and Shienarans for a bit because Saldaeans fighting the Aiel just makes zero sense geographically, and like you say, Shienarans do (or did) it all the time.
Saldaeans and Aiel
This kind of bugs me and I don't know if there's an error here or if I'm just really stupid and missing something painfully obvious.
There was a passage, I think in Towers of Midnight (of course I didn't bookmark it, where ever it was, and now I can't find it again), that said something about Saldaeans, as Borderlanders, being used to fighting Aiel. But... wait, what? Saldaea is the westernmost of the Borderlands. Aiel are (or were) in the Three-Fold Land, to the east of Westlands. Where exactly have they been fighting each other all this time? And yes the Aiel War, I get it, but from the context it sounded like this was a more general kind of thing than just fighting each other during the Aiel War.
Somebody enlighten me, please?
